My doctor has most recently told me that she thinks I have some form of PCOS. I've been having infrequent periods since the birth of my daughter in 2005. I didn't get one until she was 18months old and since then I've had maybe five others. My biggest gap was from July 08 until June 09. That's right 11 months. I've had all the test done and I was sure that it was premature menopause because it seems like my periods are weening off. Apparently, all the tests came back "normal". I never saw the results of my FSH test but everything is else is in normal ranges. The one that concerns me is my 17-OH Hydroxyprogesterone. It was 51ng. The normal ranges on that all need to be under like 250 i think. For menopause, it's usually under 45. So how is 51ng not low? Anyway, what I'm mostly concerned with is my diagnosis. When my doctor mentioned PCOS, I googled it and looked at the symptoms. I'm not significantly overweight. I've been 160 for most of my adult life. I'm now at 190, but there's been no significant weight gain since I've been having menstrual issues. I was 183 when I got pregnant with my daughter. No extra hair problems, no acne problems, nothing like that. I have had an increase in skin tags on my neck since 2005. The only other thing that has really changed is a severly decreased libido. So I guess what I want to know is, does anyone else who is living with pcos think that this is what I have or have I possibly been misdiagnosed?
If you're concerned about your diagnosis, read over the information in the above link, and ask your doctor to clearly outline the 'basis for the decision to diagnose you with pcos'.

I'm not really qualified to diagnose you, but skin tags, erratic cycles, and decreased libido are associated with PCOS.
All my blood tests are "normal," too, but I have cysts.
Most women with PCOS do not have all of the symptoms.

Thank you for the input. It's just been so frustrating because I've read about this anywhere that has information and it seems like the symptoms that are most commonly listed don't apply to me as much. It's such a wierd thing to be diagnosed with and it's really overwhelming. I'm glad to be able to be part of such a warm community though. I just finished a dosage of Provera on Saturday and I'm just kind of waiting to see if I get a period from it. If I do, I have to take it every three months and if not, my doctor's going to have me take it again with estrogen. The provera came with some side effects so I'm not really looking forward to going through it again. I'll let you know how it turns out.
