Default want to start herbs...which ones?

hello all-

i just came from an appt with my new endo, and he is suggesting i got on yasmin. however, im not feeling comfortable with this, as i have never been on bc before and up until feb 07, i was always regular.

my testosterone is the only level that is high for me (im asking to have a glucose test) and i am at a low bmi (5'6 121). im starting accupuncture next week but was thinking maybe its time to use some herbs.

what is the best option for someone that just wants to menstruate regularly and not concerned about ttc at this point? vitex? saw palmetto? please help! you all seem so knowledgeable!

Hi,

Your best bet would be to see a herbalist or naturopath to get an individual prescription. Is your acupuncturist trained in chinese herbs? If so, they could advise you.
To balance cycles and reduce testosterone I find peony & licorice combination works well, vitex helps some women, and wild yam can help too. False unicorn root is good, but very expensive.
Anything that targets insulin resistance will help too, as it is usually the high insulin that causes the high testosterone, which upsets the cycles. Herbs like gymnema can help, and also cinnamon, and acacia/hops combination is excellent.
As well as herbs, nutrients are also important for proper bloood sugar control, like B vitamins, magnesium, and chromium. And of course, 2 of the best things that can help control PCOS are a low GI diet and regular exercise.

Good luck with the acupuncture, and i hope you find the option that works best for you

And we successfully concived ds. I started using it yesterday morning , Thought it might take ages for any results as hadnt had a period for best part of a year. Started spotting yest afternoon and now in full flow since thismornin. 1 capsule in the morning and 1 after dinner 400mg. that along with saw palmette . Good luck to all you ladies.
