Default Wanted to introduce myself

I have been busy reading so many of the great threads and posts on this forum! So helpful!!

I wanted to take the time to introduce myself and ask some questions.

My name is Haley and I'm 28 years old. I was just diagnosed with PCOS at the beginning of November 2008. As if getting married that month wasn't enough!! :-) I am a newlywed as of 11-29-08!! One month!!

My OB/GYN actually was actually the one to diagnose me. Actually, I should start before this. I was bad from about 2005-2008 and I avoided going to the gyno. I know, I know! Anyways, my periods have been irregular since around 2005-2006. I can't really pinpoint when this all started. I wasn't always irregular though.
Cut to 2008, when I only had 3 periods from January to November. Finally my new hubby convinced me to put my fears aside and go to the dr. I made an appointment with a new gyno. He was able to put me at ease, and immediately told me what I had suspected...PCOS.
(I had done some online research ahead of the appointment and diagnosed myself).
Besides the very irregular periods I have had other symptoms. Weight gain in the last year, at least 40-50 pounds. Acne and some hirituism.

To me, it was somewhat of a relief to hear him diagnose me. The unexplained symptoms had left me feeling depressed.

He started me on 1000mg of Metformin a day and put me back on bc.

I have another appointment in his office for a check up at the beginning of Feb. However, I was hoping to ask some questions here and hopefully get some answers from people experiencing the same.

I finally started a period in December, after not having one since October. However, it went a lot longer than usual. I first had a 12 day period, had a 5 day break and then another 4 day period.
Is this typical for someone who is starting to get regular again? Or is this unusual?
Have any of you experienced any loss of a sex drive?

I think that is all for now. I have tried to read up on all the posts, but there are so many that I'm sure I will be busy for a while!
I'm so happy that I found this site yesterday! I can't wait to post more!

Hey Haley,

My name is Cheryl and I was diagnosed with PCOS Dec 23rd 2008. I just joined this website and have found it very helpful. Not to put my business out there but I use to love having sex but all of sudden for the past month, I'm just not feeling it either. I plan on asking my doc when I see her if this is normal or not.

In august I got off the IUD because I was ttc and my periods were not normal once I got off it. So I went back to the doctor thinking I was prego but come to find out the reason I don't have a period is because I have PCOS. So now I'm not ttc because my doctor wants me to lose some weight and put me on the nuvaring so my period would be normal but I still havent had a period yet, so I think it takes some time for it to regulate.
