Default Wanting to come off BCPs

I've been on yasmin for ~6 years now and haven't had any problems with it that I was aware of. Recently though, I've developed quite a few conditions involving chronic inflammation and infections. My doctors believe that the BCPs could be causing these other conditions and want me to come off of them. Problem is, I am TERRIFIED of going off of them. They are my only treatment towards PCOS symptoms. I'm worried that I'll break out, more hair that I don't want will grow and my hair will start falling out because I have heard of this happening to people after coming off the pill. I also know that most drs won't prescribe an anti-androgen like spiro to control the symptoms without a BCP. It feels like such a catch 22, but there has to be some way to treat ALL of this stuff without sacrificing the other conditions. Has anyone been in this situation or have any advice?

I used BCP's a number of years ago to control similar symptoms. When I finally reached a point that I was no longer happy with them, I gave my OB the BCP boot and requested a referral to an RE.

He prescribed met which for me was far superior for me in controlling all of my PCOS symptoms.

FWIW, I had a very very low baseline insulin level so that wasn't what was causing my problems, but lowering it did help. I want to say it was around 3 probably. Really low.

Maybe that's a route you could take?

If you're willing, there's the alternative route. There are lots of women in the Alternative Remedies board who are getting good results with a combination of supplements or are on a "program" of supplements (that's me). Many are also using diet if they are insulin resistant.

I recently went off Yasmin (just a personal choice) with similar fears but I'm having much fewer breakouts, the chin hair is practically gone, and I"m SLOWLY losing weight. There's a way to do it without the bcps, but you do need to be willing to let it work as it takes a little longer than traditional meds.
