I'm one of those paranoid mommas! He suggested four weeks but said "the best thing to do if you're worried is to come in.... I could do it every two if you wanted". I said I wanted! So every two it is. Heck, if he was willing every single day, I would!

Hi, as a faithfull reader of this thread, i now have a question..

I'm currently 27+weeks pregnant. My twins born 9 yrs ago were born at 33 weeks and my son before them which was 16 yrs ago was born at 36 weeks. So I have a history of PTL.

I have been getting 17P Progesterone injections weekly since week 20. Before getting the injections I started having BH contractions ALOT. Almost immediately after starting the injections they stopped.

A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that toward the end of my week (after getting the injection) I would start getting contractions again. Nothing regular, but alot. Two weeks ago I had my OB check my cervix and she said nice long, closed and thick. no change..

I have now noticed a pattern, however, after I get my shot, it seems to be working less and less. Each week I'll start feeling contractions a day earlier than the previous week.

For example,..
I get my shots on Monday evening.. It used to be that by Sunday, I would have contractions... Last week, I was getting them on Thursday, now this week I'm getting them on WEDNESDAY.. Thats just 2 days after getting the shot..

is it possible for my body to simply get used to the progesterone and therefore making it ineffective?? Or that its no longer working??

Coastal, your doc DOES sound great! I'm so glad your cervix will be checked regularly.

Paula, your body won't get used to the progesterone so that it works less effectively. You're at the point in pregnancy that some women just start having irregular contractions. That could be what's happening. Have you talked to your doctor? They could hook you up to an NST a few times a week to make sure your contractions are under control. And, if they see a problem, they could prescribe terbutaline, an anti-contraction medication, to be used as-needed. I've also heard of women taking Ibuprofen for contractions, but DON'T do it without your doc's okay.

Paula, can you ask your Dr for a 48 hour round of Indomethacin (also called Indocin)? Sometimes that can calm your uterus down a lot. If they get regular, get yourself to the hospital for monitoring and possibly some mag sulfate IV therapy.

Hi All..........I've been lurking for a couple of days now and hope it's okay to chime in. .......I just lost my baby girl on April 5th, I was 22wks.......I'm believing It was due to incompetent cervix..........I had increased discharge and pressure.......................and my sac burst.........I just thought the pressure was her tucked too low........long story short, by time I got to the hospital...............it was too late ...my chord was in my vagina...sorry if TMI.........they did cultres.........they also found choriamitotis....infection of the chord............but I'm thinking that was because my cervix was open........anyway....my first doc appointment is tomorrow..........question to all of you ladies...........I am mentally ready to conceive again....It took so long to ever become pregnant and I don't want to wait and it takes forever..........Is it easier to become pregnant after being pregnant???

It does sound like you had IC... definitely get a cerclage next time! For some women, it is easier to get pg the second time. For others, it is harder. I hope you are in the first category!

Hi Ladies, I posted in this section a few times but am not a regular. MY first post was the day before I delivered my twins and I posted a few times after wards as I was pursuing pregnancy and trying to learn as much as possible about IC and even PTL.

Well I am today 12 weeks pregnant and my cerclage will be done on May 1st. I have read so much here. and googled the procedure like a mad woman, and spoke candidly about it with my doctor but I was hoping you ladies could give me day of surgery details including pain stories, bleeding, anything I should or should not expect. I know the risks that are possible. I am not really looking particularly for risk issues just overall how the procedure went during and after, while in the hospital and in the immediate week at home.

I will be getting a double mcdonald at 10 am. at 830 am presurgery I will have a cervical u/s done. I will not be kept overnight unless absolutely necessary. I will be given indocin while in the hospital. I will not be having a spinal, epidural nor general, yet I am still unsure what I will be having need to meet with anesthesiologist first. I was told to expect some bleeding and that its normal. How normal is it? How long does one on average bleed and is it usually pantyline bleeding or is it pad super pad....and so on.

I know I worte a book but I just have so much going on mentally with this fast approaching and need your help to better understand what I am in for.

Patty

almost 30- i am so very sorry for your loss. for me, it got easier and easier to get pregnant each time i became pregnant. i had suffered from infertility for years...then got pregnant with 3 rounds of meds....had a miscarriage......got pregnant with 2 rounds of meds.....prematurely delivered my twin girls at 20 weeks.....got pregnant with 1 round of meds.....had a full term son with the help of a cerclage.....then got pregnant again with NO meds......currently pregnant with a cerclage. it seemed that my body "got the hang of it" eventually or something. i hope my story gives you hope. good luck.

patty - congrats. i just had my 3rd cerclage placed on april 6th. i also had a failed rescue cerclage with my twins, and a successful preventative cerclage with my living son. with my preventatives, i got double mcdonalds with a spinal andd was home the same day. i had minimal pain and very little bleeding....maybe one pantyliner, if that. i was home about 5 hrs after the procedure. dont worry, its not bad at all....and its nice to know that you kind of have a safety net in place.

Hi girls. I just finished reading the entire thread. And as if I'm not paranoid enough, I'm a little more worried now.

I had an u/s on 3/26/07. This was ordered to check my cervix due to a previous LEEP procedure about 2yrs ago. They said I was about 3 and was good. So me without being informed first that that everything was great. Now I'm reading that a 3 is the min? I've been having these weird feelings. I don't think I can even explain them. The first one I only feel every now and then and it feels a little like cramps, but on the mild side, toward the very lower part of my lower belly. I figured that was just round ligament. I'm also now feeling this weirdness in my nether regions. This is off and on as well. I wouldn't say it was painful, but kinda like hard twinges maybe. I don't even know if that's expalining it right. I don't have any type of discharge or anything else. I do have lower back pain, but I believe that is because I sit at a desk for 8hrs and also go to school for a few more hours twice a week. I had occational back aches b4 being pg, so I'm not thinking too much into that.

Should I be concerned? I have my big 20wk u/s on 4/30. Should I ask if they can check me again? Do I need to call them in advance to ask, or can I just do it when I'm there?

Thank you guys so much!

Almost 30, I've never had a preventative cerclage, so I don't know what to expect for you in that reguards. I had a epidural for my rescue cerclage so I felt nothing. My blood pressure dropped so much with the meds, I don't even remember having the procedure done at all. Afterwards there was pain and pressure. I had quite a bit of bleeding and found that really frightening. I was afraid to go to the bathroom. I could definately feel the cerclage there. Overall, it wasn't that bad. The pain lessened after awhile, but I can't remember how long it took. I've heard that preventative cerclages are not painful.

Starlite, you should get checked again as soon as possible. Mother's intuition is actually the best sign to watch for. All the other symptoms may or may not be present. If you suspect there's something wrong, just try to get them to check. If it turns out to be nothing, great. If you don't ask to be checked and something is wrong, you'll never be able to forgive yourself.

Hello girls I am new here...I lost my son in september but the doctor was not able to rule out IC because my placenta had an infection and I was having small contractions they called uterine irritablility. My question is I am ttc 2 now and am worried about my next pregnancy. The doctor says he will treat me as IC and for the infection and preterm labor. What should I know about IC and what can be done to help me get to term other then the cerclage that will be placed at 12-14 wks and any success stories would be very encouraging

Almost, it was easier for me to get pregnant with #2!

Patty, I'm so glad you're back here! Well, not here, as in IC-ville, but here as in the pregnancy board.

For my preventative cerclage, I went in early morning and waited. And waited. And waited. They had overbooked the ORs (my doc does the placement in the OR, with an epidural, thank God!). I got my epidural, and my doc put the stitches in. I got two, also. My cervical opening was very loose, so he even put an extra, thinner stitch there. The whole procedure took about 45 minutes, I guess. I was awake the whole time. The anesthesiologist sang soft rock songs (during my rescue cerclage with Rivi, a different anesthesiologist sang showtunes, lol). Then I went to a recovery room, and I stayed there several hours being monitored for contractions. I wasn't allowed to leave until I peed by myself. Then I was on bedrest for a week, only allowed a shower each day. After that, I had no restrictions other than sex, extra walking, and lifting over 5 lbs.

I had mucousy spotting for 6 weeks afterward, which freaked me out constantly, but I learned to deal with it.

Starlite, I'd call your doc and ask for another cervical check ASAP. What you're feeling may be nothing, but it's better to be safe than sorry. And Mommy intuition can be a very powerful warning tool!

Angels, I'm so sorry you lost your baby boy! In addition to the restrictions your doc puts you on, I'd also do as much bedrest as possible, whether doctor-ordered or not.
