I woke up to some more bleeding today, it was brown blood, but it was blood. So I went to the doc and heard the hb and then got another u/s and he was moving and shaking. The placenta had moved away from the cervix already, so they think it was just left over blood because its far away from the cx and its appears to be attached again. The doc saw it was a boy again and thought I didnt know. So the exam went well and the placenta has already moved, now hopefully the bleeding will stop.

I don't mean to be ignoring everyone. I've started working and my time online is a lot shorter. I am worried about violet. Has anyone heard from her?

Last wed they did a trans vag u/s, but since then the u/s have been abdominal. But last wed they did a bunch of measurements inside and baby. My cx is hard and 4.5 cm so atleast I have that going for me.

Marilyn, that sounds good.

Laura, I haven't heard from Violet. I'm hoping that she's safely tucked away in a hospital bed hanging on to this baby!

Default Measurements

I have a question about IC measurements. I'm not pregnant now, but have IC and am trying to figure out as much as possible--hope it is OK if I post it here. I hear a lot of measurements in centimeters. I got my medical records and found my cervix was 50 and 64 through an abdominal ultrasound at 20 weeks.Do you think this is millimeters?

Yes. That would mean your cervix was measuring between 5cm & about 6.4cm. That's a good measurement. That's not particularly surprising b/c IC can happen so quickly and without much if any warning. They might have been able to detect funneling at that time had they done a vaginal u/s to check for it.

Default Loss mentioned

Thanks so much for the info, it helps for peace of mind. That IS fast, since 3 days later was when I went into labor. I had symptoms before that though (mucus, etc.) At least I know the doctors didn't miss anything. Again, I apologize posting about this here.

This is the perfect place to post something like that. It's important for people to know that it can happen that fast. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I have been pretty much a lurker at SC but I wanted to post after reading this thread.

I worked all day Monday and had contractions that I thought were Braxton Hicks, not painful, my stomach just got hard. In the evening I was going to the bathroom & turned to flush and there was a tiny strand of mucous, it was egg white consistency & blood tinged. I was worried then just laid down with my older children for bed. I called the Dr in the am and was sent for an U/S. The radiologist & dr thought I had an IC and sent me to a larger city nearby to have a cerclage placed this am. (I am 27 wks with a first pregnancy after 16 years of infertility-no treatment for the last 5 years) When the OB looked at my sono from yesterday he did not see the IC, but they had me do an internal u/s in the office. Well, I am showing funneling (sp?) and am now on bedrest. The ob said it was preterm labor not IC and I received a cortisone injection today.

Your at a good spot for IC. It is often difficult to tell the difference between IC and PTL. The definition of IC is cervical dilation without noticeable contractions. If your contractions were pretty mild I'd still suspect IC, though 27 weeks is really good for IC. It can happen in the 3rd trimester. Even at 24 weeks I had made it further than normal.

I'd feel better about having a cerclage in if I were in your shoes, but I think with your baby's gestational age, his prospects are extremely good, even if he was born today.

I'm sorry you are going through this. Keep us updated on how you are doing.

For clarification, they are giving you something to prevent contractions, aren't they? The cortizone is the steroid, right?

The cortisone is for the baby's lungs. The OB had just returned from a conference where PTL was discussed and the results have not changed since the 60's even with the drugs & he said that there wasn't any proof that anything worked. I was just told to take it easy. If I go into labor before 34 wks I will have to be sent to a hospital 60 miles away. The contractions have been further apart since resting Tues/Today. They were pretty constant Monday pm. The U/S tech told me she hadn't heard of anyone having a cerclage at 27 wks but maybe they would do it at the larger hospital.

I'd demand to be moved now. There are meds that can possibly hold off labor. I was told that I would probably have my baby within 48 hours of my water breaking, but the meds helped keep things calm. I had trebuteline at home & in the hospital. Now, they stopped contractions on the day I had my cerclage with mag.

Tell them you want to try. It may not work, but it won't do any harm. Nobody has ever been sorry for doing everything they could for their baby.
