I take Spironolactone to help with hair growth. It is a diaretic, and it helps flush the extra androgens out of your system. If there is even a chance you may become pregnant, you will need to be on birth control. Spironolactone can cause birth defects if taken while pregnant.

Do you have a dr who specialized in PCOS? B/c he/she would know. I am not on meds, but I've seen posts of women who've had successes with met or spiro.
There is a cream the dr can prescribe, vaniqua, but you'll need to check if your ins will cover it, many won't b/c it's for treating hirutism, and that's considered a cosmetic issue. I used vaniqua for quite a while about 5-6 years ago, and I loved it, but had to stop b/c ins wouldn't pay, and at that time it was almost $70 per tube, and I think each tube lasted 4-5 weeks (I have a large area to cover, b/c I have a full beard complete with sideburns).
I've also read posts about natural remedies to reduce the facial hair, but I've not tried that yet. What looked most promising to me was taking saw palmetto and wild yam root. Cysters noticed up to 90% reduction in facial hair, some within 10 days. I found saw palmetto but not the wild yam root so I can't vouch for this myself. But just a thought.

Have you had a proper diagnosis yet?

What are your problems other than hair growth?

Most people experience some side-effects with whatever drugs they may be prescribed.

For myself, since I was able to conceive naturally, I was able to avoid taking drugs and I simply shave every day to control facial hair growth. As far as other hair growth is concerned, I normally just cover it up.

Occasionally, as over the last few weeks when I've been away overseas for work reasons, I shave a lot more, including the whole length of my legs, because I wear business skirts on such occasions.

I find a good men's-type electric razor takes all the problem out of keeping my face smooth -- I use a Philips Norelco from the men's range.

Incidentally, I saw in Singapore a vast range of Philips electric razors for men that simply aren't available here but look ideal for women in that they're compact enough to slip into a purse very easily. Two headed models from about $18 (Singapore) to $200 (Singapore). Since there are about $1.3 Singapore to $1 US they're quite a bit cheaper in $US.
