When I drink water it makes me feel sick. Its like I can feel it swishing around in my stomach and it makes my stomach feel uneasy, kind of nauseaus. Because of this I barely ever drink it. It seems like only carbonated drinks that make me burp don't do this to me. Does anyone else have this problem?
I get this and sounds weird but if I drink more than a cup a day my vision gets off big time.
I have to drink it every other day or I get sicker than a dog.
Ocassionally I start getting welts all over my body when I am taking a shower or bath. My doctor has been trying to do a work up on me with my allergie shots but because I am not in water and it dont happen all the time he dont know what to think.
Im glad I am not the only one. Lesia

I can't really drink water in the morning, it does the same thing. I have to wait for my body to wake up before I try to eat and drink anything.
Maybe if the carbonation helps, get some fizzy/sparkling water? #1 since it's bottled, it might not have the impurities that you home water has and #2 since it's fizzy, it might get rid of the swishy feeling?

Ok, this might sound weird, but it could be due to the acidity of your stomach. Do you get heartburn or acid reflux ever? Try taking food enzymes to help put the pH of your stomach in the correct balance (it is SUPPOSED to be very acidic, this helps digest your food. If it is too alkaline, that is more often what causes pain then actual acid. It is a caustic alkaline, which is very painful).
What meds are you on? Do any of them say "be sure to drink plenty of water" with them? If so, it could be that they are actually bothering your stomach, not just the water (even if you get the nausea when you don't take them). Have you ALWAYS had this problem, or has it just started recently or since you've become an adult? If it started after you started the meds, that could be it. If it started after you became an adult, it could be due to a poor diet depleting the pH balance in your stomach. Either way, I recommend trying food enzymes. They might help even if it is a side effect of the drug. Oh, and how do your bowels move? If you tend to be on the constipated side (going one time a day or less), that's another indication that it could be the digestion.
It could be stress, too. Whatever it is, the answer is not to not drink water. That will make you worse in the long run. You need to figure out what is causing this. Maybe it is just because you don't drink enough water, your body isn't used to it, so it reacts. If that is the problem, just drink more water until it passes (if this is the problem, it should not last more than 3 or 4 days, and should gradually get better).

As of April, I will have been drinking 4-5 24oz bottles of water a day, every single day. At first I felt really nauseous... for about a week. However, once that passed I actually CRAVE water now. Anything else makes me feel sick, though once in a while I'll steal a sip or two of DH's pop. It cures the need for the bubbles. I feel wonderful since switching to all water, I will never go back to drinking all the pop I used to. Before I was drinking 5-8 cans of Diet Pepsi a day... I felt like crap!
Anyway, once you have drank water for a week straight, fighting through the nausea... it does get better. Like I said, I can't get enough of it!!!
BTW, I've also lost 25 pounds by just giving up DIET Pop!!!!!

Water used to make me sick when I first started drinking it.
Now I drink around 100 oz a day and love it. I don't get hunger pains like I use to when I was drinking diet pop.
I have lost 15 pounds since November when I started drinking water and exercising

Thanks to everyone for the responses. I do take Prevacid for acid reflux. I wonder if that could be it? When I drink water, I will only drink bottled. The chlorine in tap makes me gag-I seriously can't even brush my teeth with it. Does drinking sparkling water count the same as drinking regular water as far your 8 glasses a day? Thanks again

The scientists are backing down on the "need 8 glasses a day" recommendatinos. They are saying not everyone needs that much. Your body processes water better than other liquids, but having a big bowl of soup will hydrate you (as long as it's not overly salty). My DH has AR and he had problems with drinking water (it gave him heartburn). He is now on Prilosec, but drinks only bottled water since tap water still can make him sick at times.
I get feeling like that too if I drink anymore than say a mouthful of water. Also if I drink milk on an empty stomach, then I really feel sick. So you are definitely not alone.
