Last year I had become pregnant after coming off b/c and everything was fine but my water broke at 16 weeks and they had to indice labor even though the baby was fine. Horrible ordeal! I was wondering if anyone else had that happen? The Drs can't tell me why it happened. |

My Mood: Points: 1,691.74 Bank: 1,257.88 Total Points: 2,949.62 | We lost our son this January when my water broke at 18 wks. We did an ultrasound and he was fine - there was just no amniotic fluid left - they told me his lungs wouldn't be able to develop properly and there was no hope. For me, labor started right away and we delivered him the next day (but had to due a D&C to remove the placenta).
We think this was a possible IC issue and I also suspect there may have been some premature labor (hind sight 20/20) due to the way I had been feeling over the prior 48 hours.
My DR has agreed to perform a cerclage at 14 wks when we get PG again.

My tummy was tight and I could feel him further down. I didn't realize it at the time. I woke up in pain and then my water popped. SO you think it was IC?? I didn't know you had contrations with that. I did have a LEEP dome on my cervix and I knew there was a risk on this. |

I assume your doctor knew about the LEEP? Did s/he do regular cervical checks? That's a MAJOR indicator for IC.
It could be IC, or it could be plain old preterm labor. With your history of LEEP, though, I'd lean toward IC and get a cerclage next time. You should see a specialist (perinatologist or maternal fetal medicine specialist), and take your records with you. At the least, they'd probably recommend a cerclage next time and very close monitoring for PTL.

Lots of stories just like yours are all over these boards. Some happened right around the same time, and some later. I would guess IC and get a cerclage at the beginning of the second trimester next time, because there's no reason to take a chance.
Lots of Hugs!! And welcome to SoulCysters,
Sheri

I am so sorry for your loss. I know you must be devastated. I hope you're getting lots of support. It's hard I know. I've suffered two 2nd trimester losses due to PROM (premature rupture of membranes). My first one was June 10,2004 @17 wks. My 2nd was Feb. 5,2005 @16 wks 1 day. Both times I had some cramping before. With the first one I had a few random pains and then while I was in bed that night my water broke. With my second, I had pains I called my Dr. right away I went in to see the Dr. and everything looked OK. I had a sonogram and everything looked perfect. The pains stopped for a while then they came back. I was told that if I had 6 or more pains in an hour to come back to the office. I never had that many pains, but my membranes ruptured two days later. Both times I had to go through labor and delivery and delivered beautiful babies. Both times no one knew what happened. I have since found out that I have a clotting disorder which may have caused this but, we are still doing testing.
Write to me anytime or PM me.
My heart breaks for you. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Have you found a cause? Have you had RPL testing?

One question - what is a "LEEP dome"?
