I have been very discouraged lately because everything I try to help my depression makes my blood pressure go up! He said it should help bring it down. I also take labetalol 400mg. I'm also a little upset because I haven't been eating right the last couple of days. (fast food etc.) I haven't binged or anything but my weight has gone up a couple of pounds. I've lost 17 lbs since starting met. Does anyone else hold water like this? I hope the water pill will not only help my blood pressure but also get rid of all the water I retain! It's really awful when AF is here! I can hold like 5 pounds of water during that time! It is so discouraging!! Just wondering if anyone else takes a water pill and if it helps them with any of this stuff.

ACE Inhibitors and Angiotensin Receptor Blockers can actually increase insulin sensitivity, and may be the best types of blood pressure meds for those with insulin resistance. When I saw the research about this a couple of years ago I had my doc switch me from Atenolol (a beta blockers) to Altace (an ACE Inhibitor).
Fast food is high in sodium and can cause water retention, but I'm sure you already know that. Hang in there.

Just as a side note, suffering from depression myself I have been doing research on nutrition for depression and EFAs are good for hormones and hormonal depression!
Linda gave you some great advice ~ have a word with your doctor.
Good Luck!

I've been on that for a month, and noticed some water weight loss(I think it is, but my diet has been better too so who knows; but the pounds have stayed off so far). I am completing my 2nd week on Met, so I'm hoping to see good results with that as well.
The one thing that my doctor said about the water pill is that you must still drink lots of water. Sodium is not as much an issue, but I'd stay away from the fast food anyways. Good luck, and I hope your water retention issues ease up soon.

I took 1/2 a pill yesterday and this morning when I weighed myself I was 4 pounds lighter! I guess I had retained more water than I thought. I noticed I was going to the bathroom a few more times than I usually do. My doctor said I probably wouldn't go any more than usual. I guess he just doesn't know how bad I retain water! ( I just started seeing him) I know fast food is bad for me but sometimes I just HAVE to have it! I really should try to make healthier choices when I do eat fast food but I have no willpower. I always end up with the greasy burger, french fries and reg. coke!

I can relate to the unhealthy choices for fast food. I've made a promise to myself that the only fast food joint I'm going to visit is Subway. Even then, I tend to gravitate towards the highest calorie sandwich--I can't resist the seafood sub. Perhaps if you set small goals for the fast food visits, it may help--for example, buy diet coke at home, and order a small regular coke--mix it with a can of diet to get a large serving. Or if you have a Wendy's feel free to get the greasy burger, but opt for chili or side salad instead of the french fries. Baby steps have helped me.
