Default Ways to finance adoption

Hey guys, what are some of the ways you have thought of to pay for adoption expenses?

Here's what I have so far:

Adoption Tax Credit
Loans (something I would prefer not to do)
Part-time job
Avon/Tupperware/Mary Kay/etc.

Thanks.

Prayer, seriously.

I have friends, who as I speak are in Russia RIGHT NOW adopting their daughter's bio sibling. This is a family with 6 kids already, a stay-at-home mom and a dad who works out of the home. They don't have much, but they have a strong faith in God.

I swear, they prayed that God would provide them a way to adopt this 9-year old boy, stuck in an orphanage in Russia, and bring him to a better life in America. Both for his sake and for his sister's, who missed him terribly.

In less than 9 months, they raised over $20,000!!!! They literally started with nothing!

How they did it...
-Church "benefit" dinners and concerts
-A community-wide yard sale, with all proceeds going to the adoption fund. They let people "donate" money instead of marking things with a price, and they raised a ton of money. For instance, one person donated $20 to buy a little kid's book, simply because the money was going to such a good cause. My friend set up a card table with photos of Ilya, pics of the orphanage, etc.
-A bake sale at their local Wal Mart. Friends and family cooked tons of baked goods, and they raised nearly $1000!
-They set up an account with His Kids Too, a non-profit company that allows people to donate funds to your adoption expenses and then claim them on their taxes as a donation.
-Found friends who were Mary Kay/Creative Memories/Tupperware consultants to donate all their proceeds for certain parties to the adoption fund.

With things like bake sales and yard sales, you will find people are a lot more willing to donate if they know what a good cause the money will be used for.

I have also run across people on eBay selling things they have made to fund their adoptions. One woman was making kid's outfits, and on the auction page she told a bit about their story and attempts to adopt "Emily" in Russia. Not only did I buy the outfit, I sent an extra $20 to help fund the adoption. You would be very surprised by the outpouring of support you can receive from the public!

There are many creative ways to earn $$ if you put your minds -- and your faith -- to it!
