We have been trying to have a baby for the last 7 years. WE have done the clomid thing right up to the injectable stage, we decided to kind of back off and just get everything going in our life that we were putting off because of all of the baby stuff.
And Yesterday my cousin's friend came to us and asked us if we would adopt her baby when it is born. She is not in a position to raise a child in any way, and she wanted her baby to have a better life then what she had as a child.
We are not sure exactly when she is due either may or june. She thinks she is haveing a boy. Either way we don't mind.
We contacted our Lawyer today and we will go in and write up the papers in the next few weeks.
She wants us to go to her dr appointments and ultraa sounds and of course the birth. We will be going to have a meeting at our hospital to give them copies of the adoption papers and such, and she wants to express her wishes to the head maternity Nurse.
She has told us that she wants to leave the hospital as soon as possible after the birth, and I will remain there to feed the baby as needed.
We are just so excited.

Dossier papers finished and turned in 2/13/04...we are officially waiting!!

Well we have our Due date. June 7th. We have 8 weeks left until our baby comes home with us.
A question for you ladies that were involved with their BM before the birth.
Our BM wants to leave the hospital as soon as she can after the birth, What do you all think of that should I encourage her to stay until the discharge the next day or should we honor her decision on wanting to leave ASAP?

I just wanted to tell you that your adoption is actually somewhat similar to ours.... and it can become a little sticky.
If you want some advice... here is goes...
Be polite, understanding and open as possible to birth mother's feelings... but remember... this will be YOUR child... and it is imperitive you help make decisions even while she is pregnant.
Big mistake I made. Don't show off. Don't do the "this is all the great stuff I can do for him that you would never have been able to do". I thought I was being tactful. I thought she would appreciate it. But she already knew all of that. It just hurt her more.
Also... stay away from terms like "real mom" "natural parents" etc. That was a big whoops about 5 minutes after Artie was born.
I am learning as I go... but those are some mistakes I made right away.
Also... BM gets bi-monthly visits until 1 year of age. Then yearly visits until 5 years. Then yearly update packets (pictures, letters, drawings)Or at least that is the plan... we will see how it goes.
We want BM to be comfortable. We care about her. We know this is very hard and she has made a great and painful decision and we love her for loving our son.
I started a "dear birth mom" scrap book. That way she can see how he is growing and thriving.
