I can hardly believe this is actually happening. Last night we got our referral! For those of you who have been through this it is so difficult to express the emotions. But, in about 6 months we will get to travel to Guatemala to pick up our SON!
We got 4 pictures and a small amount of information. And, since the birth mother did not name the child, we got to name the baby this morning so the birth certificate can have a name on it.
I absolutely cannot believe that I just named my child and that someone far, far away is typing up a birth certificate with the name we choose.

Yes, Brandy, we were just certifying documents last week. Thank goodness for express mail. But for Guatemala your dossier doesn't actually get sent/looked at in Guatemala until you have accepted a referral and have a power of attorney specific for your referral. So, once the power of attorney is filled out with the baby name and case number (etc) we will have to have that notarized, certified, and authenticated and then it all goes to Guatemala together. Of course, I could be wrong about all this, I can't really think clearly right now.
So yes, it was really quick. We were goofing around this weekend on Babynames.com just for fun and narrowed down boys names to about 4 or 5 names. I am so glad we did that. We were thinking we would have like 6 or 8 more months to pick a name - we had less than 24 hours!
How AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS to you and your litte Gabriel! Sounds like an angel to me!

Dh and I are also in the guademala program!
and just today dh got our police report, his birth certificate,
our marriage certificate, his passport applied for (me- tomorrow)
and tonight filling out the rest of the formal application- then sending it in- and continue to work on the other stuff-
I hope it goes just as quick for us-
we said- age 4 or younger- boy or girl- healthy-
so hopfully!
But, it was a tear jerker to see that you actually got to put the name you selected on the birth certificate- amazing
Oh my gosh I have tears of joy in my eyes right now. What AWESOME news!!!! I am praying the time flies quickly until little Gabriel Evan is in your arms forever!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes. I would love to give you more details but I just don't know much yet. We should get more information in the next week or so.
Regarding travel...the situation with Guatemala is that you don't get to travel for approx. 6 months after you get the referral. So, we should be traveling sometime this summer.
