We have decided to adopt a little boy in Utah! He is 5, so he will be 16 mos. older than our daughter. We became aware of him through a friend/colleague that moved there to do an internship. She had contact with him in his group home and knew he would be perfect for our family!
We are really excited and everything is pretty much squared away in Utah, but we found out we are going to have to complete another home study for the State of Oregon, which could take up to 90 days. We are planning to visit him for Thanksgiving and just praying that he can be home by Christmas. He is absolutely darling and I will post pictures when he is ours!

Thanks, ladies! There are still a lot of paperwork issues up in the air, but I feel hopeful that this will happen before Christmas, which would be so great for all of us. Thank you for all of your well-wishes.

I'm just wondering your thoughts on adopting out of birth order? Since your new son will now be the oldest in the family? I'm just wondering...not knocking or anything.

Amy - that was definitely something we were opposed to before. But, we have just felt so good about this little guy. They are close enough in age that it will be awhile before they catch on that he's older. Plus, she has been an only child for 4 years and will still be the only girl (so far), so we really don't feel like we displacing her. They will kind of both be the oldest child...if that makes any sense.
Good question though and I don't think it would generally be a good idea.
