We just got "Boots" products here...how are they? Which do you like?
HI, UK and Irish Cysters,
I noticed when I was in our big Target store today that they have added a whole row of Boots products! I remember seeing the Boots stores when my family visited England way back in 1972.
They have all kinds of products, including "No. 7" cosmetics and bath and body, "Botanics", "Time Dimensions" skin products, "mediterranean" bath and body, and more.
The products look lovely and I was wondering if any of you have suggestions as to what to try.
Kathryn

Boots is a big store over here in the uk - I would say that every high street has a Boots store.
They stock lots of different brands and not just cosmetics.... they have a pharmacy and sometimes optitions and food you can buy for lunch (they go this 'meal deal' sandwhich crisps and drink) and what I use most is the baby products.
The actual 'Boots' branded things are usually cheaper than the other brands sold and there always seems to be a good deal with the boots - buy one get one free or 2 for 1....
I will reccomend the Botanics range as my friend brought me a bag with those products for my birthday in April - the facial scrub is fab.
Yes, most UK people buy regularly from Boots! The no7 stuff is good... my mum uses no7 makeup almost exclusively, and I have their mascara. It has quite a lot of 'classic' lines, rather than super fashionable ones. I quite like their skincare too.
I really like most Boots products - they're usually cheaper but still good quality. I use No.7 and 17 mostly.
There's been a big rush on a No. 7 product here - Protect and Perfect (for younger skin) and Refine and Rewind (for older skin). The shops are selling out of it quicker than it can be made!

Thank you all for the great tips! I guess I'm at the age where I'll have to Refine and Rewind! The botanicals look really nice and I think I will try some of the No. 7 line. So, the next time I'm in that store I think I will treat myself! You should have seen me when I was looking at something and turned around and saw that whole row of Boots products..."Boots!" I said out loud in amazement and delight. If anyone heard me they must have thought I was crazy!

I'll second that!
There No 7 range is really good! I am a fan of there version of YSL Touch Eclatl, I think they where the first company to come up with an own version... and I tried it and have never looked back!
I finally went back to that store today and almost all the products were gone! People must really love them. I didn't have much money on me, but I did buy a No. 7 lipstick called "Glace". It is a perfect color for me and my white hair and fair skin...a nice neutral pink with a sort of subtle golden sheen to it!
I will be going back for more next week. Thanks for all your input. I really appreciate it!

For some reason they're all German or Swiss, but they do stuff that's organic and biodynamically grown. I couldn't believe the difference in my skin when I first started with the Dr Hauschka stuff.
I haven't looked at the Botanics range for a long time but have a feeling they contained a lot of chemicals and a few essential oils chucked in to make it marketable as 'natural' as I remember having a bit of a shock when I read the ingredients.
Here's some useful info: http://www.health-report.co.uk/ingre...ic%20chemicals
As for the anti ageing stuff, does it contain collagen? (Connective tissue from cows and pigs. I think they boil up the hooves).
I think Boots products will be more available in the US as Boots has now been taken over by a US company.
A quick look at the ingredients of the range here:
confirms that there's a bit more er science than nature in this stuff, just as I thought. As for antioxidants, surely you'd be better off drinking them in your tea and red wine, than putting them on your face! Just checked out the anti ageing stuff - there's no way I'd put petroleum by products or parrafin (yes, parrafin!) on me face! Maybe it's why I look young for my age - I've never put chemicals on my face since the 70s!
Lavera and Dr H do nice make up too, that has no preservatives or chemicals in. The other good thing about Dr H is they don't do night creams as they block your skin from doing what it does when you sleep - flushing out toxins, and breathing. I have a couple of friends my age who asked me what I use on my skin as it is so unwrinkly as they'd got to mid 40s and were finally using night creams etc. They were really surprised when I said I don't do anything but cleanse and tone at night! So although it seems expensive, the skin care regime actually works out much cheaper than most and unlike anything else, works! A lot is down to diet and hydration as well, though.
Pleased you can get it over there now, (I wore Boots 17 in the mid 70s, just before we could get cruelty free stuff everywhere and have fond memories of a little make up box I got full of 17 stuff!) Be nice for ex pats - I remember how excited I was when I lived in the US and found a Body Shop in Boulder!

Thanks for all that great information, PollySis. I didn't realize that Boots had been taken over by a US company. That's too bad, as I want to support my British friends!
People always remark that my skin looks younger, too (I am 50) and I have never used anything special on it. Just washed with Dove type soap and water. I use tepid water, never hot because I am prone to rosacea. The main thing is that I hated sitting out in the sun because I never tanned and was prone to heatstroke. All my friends who did sit out in the sun, trying to get a tan when we were teens are much more wrinkly! I think that staying out of the sun and using a sunscreen are the most important skin care tips of all.
I do find that maybe I need a moisturizing product now that I am getting older. I have seen the Dr. Hauschka products at our local Natural Foods store. I even picked up a booklet about them. I really wanted to try them, but they were SO expensive. Still, the price might be worth it if they are good products as you say.
Anyway, thanks again and thanks all who answered my post. I love you UK cysters!
