We are so excited and nervous Update: We had our first meeting with our social worker and before we could tell her we were now leaning more towards waiting children adoption instead of adopting from Colombia she asks us to sit down as she has a question for us.
SO anyways, we sit down and she says: "how important is having a baby to adopt to you?" and we reply "age doesn't matter, we just want to be parents." So her next question is, "how soon do you want your family?", we said "we know it can months or years even for MN waiting children". She next says, "any chance you'd take more than 1?" we say "yes, we'd love 2 or 3 children". So the next words out of her mouth are that they have done our background check and gotten all our reference letters back and want to get the homestudy started and that we can start looking at information on children and that we can hopefully have our family home by the end of August so that they can start the new year in their new home and in their new school.
OH MY GOD, I am going to be a mom sooner than I think. We tell her we don't have the house done(remodeling) and she says, oh no big deal, you can work on it and whatever as long as no wires showing it is good to start the home study. She said there is no guarantee, but she and the agency see NO REASON why the kids can't be in our home before the start of the new school year. She said they were amazed at how clean our background check was, only 1 moving violation for me and 1 speeding ticket for DH and that the reference letters she got indicates how much support we have from our family and friends and the fact that we currently have no children in the home is a HUGE PLUS- our medicals are already done and back at the agency and also that we are OPEN TO ANY ETHNIC GROUP.
I just wanted to update everyone. We have a class on cross cultural awareness on June 20th, another class scheduled for July 18th for MN waiting children(special needs) and our homestudy and we are ready.
