Okay we are really positive that we want to adopt now. I'm not sure what to expect!
What kind of things should we be expecting? What kind of courses do we have to take etc. My aunt recently adopted like 5 yrs ago I believe. She has helped 6 couples adopt their babies also. I would like some insight from my cysters before we move on.
We are not rich. We have a good amount of debt... we are currently living with my parents (will be in our own place soon). I've had steady employment, dh has not. How badly will they pick us apart. We dont have anything in savings. We live check to check. Things are getting better because dh now has a job also.
First you should decide what type of adoption you want, ie: international, domestic, through DSS (DCFS, depending on where you live), Foster-to-adopt, etc. There's a sticky at the top of the forum w/ tons of info in it about all different types. It all depends on what you choose how bad you'll be picked apart. They just want to make sure that you have the means and are able to take care of a baby.
I can only speak of China b/c that's where we chose.
For China, you have to make atleast $30,000/year ($10,000 for each family member including the baby). Have to be married for atleast 1 year (I think it's one...it might be 2 though). Have to be 30 (both parents).
If you have any more questions on China there's a great thread further down in the forum w/ tons of questions/answers.
Good Luck!

You've already taken the first step in deciding this is something you want to do.
I suggest from my past to read as much as you can on the different types of adoption and like me I went out and got the Adoption for Dummies book (yes they make one of those books for everything I guess.) Visit some support adoption sites. Soak up as much information as you can about it.
I'm happy for you and wish you the best on your journey to adoption.
