I didn't know a thing about diabetes until I was diagnosed. Now that I look back I realize that I was heading in the direction as early as 25. I was most likely IR throughout my 20's but never knew. I just know that I went from being a very underweight teen to gaining weight at 20 lb intervals until it topped at the mid 200's. I was horrorified. That was when I was diagnosed with diabetes. I lost 57 pounds the first year on Met, but my weight has fluctuated back and forth since then. Mostly back up and holding
But diabetes isn't always about weight gain either. You can be thin and be diabetic. It has to do with your insulin levels. And heredity plays another key role. If anyone in your family and I don't just mean your immediate family (my aunt is diabetic and I never in a million years thought I could get it because my parents didn't have it.)
Your blood sugar is within good normal range at 86. Just being aware of everything is the best way to try to prevent getting diabetes. I wish I had been told back 20 years ago that I had PCOS and there was a chance I could be IR and that untreated, IR could lead to diabetes. I might have been able to stop it from turning into diabetes.
Keep on top of things, keep eating right, exercising, and getting regular blood tests to make sure your insulin levels are staying within normal range. That's about the best advice I can give.
