Hi! I can share my experiences with you and maybe that'll help. I am on ortho tri cyclen lo but have taken ortho tri cyclen and ortho cyclen both before. I did not gain weight on any of them. The lo version is great if you experience any estrogen sidea ffects (i.e. weight gain, headaches, bloat, breat pain and probably bloat). Unfortunately I have had trouble with this one for some reason and my only thought is that the progestin is too strong for me without the added estrogen. The ortho cyclen and ortho tri were good for me as far as weight gain and breast pain. Much better than other pills such as ovcon and ortho novum 35. I did have terrivbe headaches on it though so I looked for another pill lower in estrogen. This pill feels similar to Mircette for me. Good Luck!!! A plus is nice skin and less unwanted hair!

I am trying to figure out what's cuasing the problems I've been having. On paper ortho tri lo seems a perfect fit. I liked ortho cyclen alot but had headaches, and bloating that became worse as I've gotten older (I have taken ortho cyclen for about 6 years off and on 9around pregnancies). It had always done wonders for my skin and excess hair, like no other pill. Now I could get it with lower estrogen! It sounded great!

But,.. From mid month on, it is triphasic, I feel miserable. It is as if I will begin my period any moment. BLoating, cramping, bowel changes, like just before you get your period (mine are usually quite bad so my pms symptoms may be much worse than the average) I feel better when I am done with the pack and waiting for AF. I felt this way on Mircette the whole month so can only think it has too much progetin power for me. SOme people do great on progestin dominant pills like demulin and Mircette, I never have.

A side note, I had aweful nausea, like early pregnancy on ortho tri cyclen during week one. My dr. told me this was not uncommon as the estrogen far outweighs the progestin that week. This never bothered me until after I had my first child but found it hard to live with. I did not have this on the lo version. It seems as if aging has brought on certain side affects I never had with the pills. My favorite pill ever was triphasil but now as I am nearing 40 no one wants to give it to me. They say it'll probably be different now and they're probably right.

Good luck on pill selection. This can be so frustrating but for me essential since I don't show IR, although I've tried. They seem to be my only vise! Ifeel like I've been on the pill all my life, except for Clomid!
