I went on the pill when I was 16 for acne (didn't even have sex until I was 23)... but anyways, I went off of it when I was 20 - never got my period back. I went on horomones for a month and then started the pill to jump start my period and that is when PCOS kicked in big time.
I gained about 55 lbs regardless of exercise, etc.
I went on glucophage and it took me years to get the weight off. I now am at about 140 lbs (5'5") I went on the pill again this past September because I was dating someone and then went off of it again after a month (we broke up)
I am now up about 5 - 6 lbs. I don't know what is going on. I have been able to maintain OK up until now, and now it is just piling on. I'm really depressed.
What are others experiences with going on and off the pill??
I feel as though I totally screwed myself up by going on and off of it again - even if it was just a month. It took me so long to get straightened out, that I hope I didn't mess myself up again from one month on the pill. My skin is fine and my period... but my pants are all so tight!

This actually happened to me. I was on the pill for about five years or so and I went off of it so that my husband and I could start a family. I kid you not, I gained at least 15 pounds after stopping the pill. It came on so quickly too - like within a month of stopping. I had to buy new clothes since none of mine fit anymore.
I know that some people say that they gain when they go on the pill and lose when they go off, but that wasn't what happened in my case. When I first went on the pill, I maybe gained a few pounds (2-3), but nothing significant. Going off was a completely different story.
I am back on the pill again b/c of terrible hormonal fluctuations as I enter perimenopause.
I was on the pill from ages 15-18 in order to force my body to have a regular period- no one mentioned PCOS at that time, but I was thin (115-120ish pounds). Since I'd never been sexually active and didn't plan to be for a long while, I went off the pill at age 18. I had several PCOS symptoms at that point- complete lack of a period and facial hair- but I didn't gain any weight.
In 2006 I gained a great deal of weight in a short amount of time from thyroid cancer treatment. Due to the side effects of the treatment and how PCOS impacted my body, I wasn't able to lose the weight.
Last year, at age 25, I went on the birth control patch. I instantly dropped 20 pounds (and I DO mean 'instantly'- as in a few weeks!). I went off the patch about six months later and immediately gained the weight back.
My PCOS is definitely more severe now than it was when I was 18, so I guess that has something to do with how my body reacted to the hormones in the pills.
I just started Seasonique (another brand of BCP) last Sunday and have lost 5 pounds, although I think most of it was water weight.

I gained about 100lbs in 18 months after being on the pill for 18 months. It was ridiculous...i'm still that 100lbs heavier and having no luck getting it off. I hate it...

Same thing happened to me. I went through 3 doc's before the 3rd one told me it was PCOS. One doc just said that I wasnt trying hard enough and the other thought i was just "looking" for something to be wrong with me and he tried to put me on antidepressants....
