I have heard of weight loss as a side effect, but my doctor told me not to rely on it as some wonder weight loss drug. I have been on it for about 2 weeks now and I have already lost 17 pounds!!!
Metformin certainly has value as a treatment for some women with pcos, but if a cyster is looking to lose meaningful weight - and more specifically, body fat - metformin should be combined with regular cardio and strength training (totaling a minimum of 300 minutes per week) along with improved nutrition.
Metformin doesn't make up for poor nutrition, and sedentary lifestyle.

The main thing is that it wont make you lose weight, but it helps to make it possible for everything we do to actually work so we can lose the weight.
EXACTLY.
I've always been a gym rat and always eaten well (1400-1800 calories, am 5'1) but it never paid off...then I took metformin and it's like it leveled the playing field. When I took a week of for vacation (and didn't go to the gym) and stopped loosing weight. When i went back, weight loss resumed.
40lbs in 1 year and still going strong...9 lbs till "healthy weight" and 20 till my "ideal"
But metformin in of itself does not necessarily CAUSE weight loss. My mom (also has PCOS) takes more of it than I do and hasn't lost any weight in the year she's been on it, but she didn't modify her diet or exercise either.
