hey girls,

I am healthy weight, so from that point of view I don't really relate to your struggles with weight loss, although I have always struggled to keep my weight at the same level (until about 2 months ago). I will recommend to you what my specialist recommended to me - which was diet + daily exercise + metformin to lower insulin (which would in turn cause weight loss, since when insulin is high, your body finds it very hard to burn fat, and just stores it). The diet the specialist recommended was from the 'New Glucose Revolution' books - a low GI and GL diet.

Hope this helps,
Michelle

I've been following Weight Watchers since last October and I've lost about 70 pounds. It doesn't work for everyone, but it does work for some.

togirl,

Sorry to hear about your liver probs. I have heard there are other meds that you can take if you can't take metformin. Thiazolidinediones (Roziglitazone / Avandia) are also insulin-sensitizing drugs that are sometimes used to treat diabetes and the metabolic syndrome - but I don't know if you can take them if you have liver probs.

Are you seeing a specialist that you could ask? Are you seeing a dietitian?

I'm sorry my advice was unhelpful, I was just trying to help.

Michelle

i have been trying to lose weight for about a year, and well the only thing that worked for me is well, tanning, I dont know why but it may be the metformin, BUT i had started tanning in beds about 2 weeks ago and have lose 1.5lbs more!!!!! I asked my doctor and she even said that sometimes that works due to endorphins.....................but that is just me, I am not sure that is it but hey whatever gets me results.

Have you tried Simply for Life? I haven't done it but I know alot of people in my office building and in my family. It is quite expensive though. You get personal help and they make a custom menu for you. On of my officemates lost 22lbs in 6 weeks and doesn't have to take blood presure and cholesterol meds anymore. My uncle also had similar results. Hope this helps!

I follow Weight Watchers in combination with no white carbs, no sugar. It seems to be working for me. But Weight Watchers wasn't working well for me until I cut out the whites & sugar.

Hi there....

I was very successful using Atkins - lost 100 pounds on it, then gained some back when I went off after my mom got cancer (major stress). It worked best for me when I followed the first phase (Induction - 20g carbs or less per day). That's what I'm back to doing now.

Hope this helps.
