I have been diagnosed with PCOS for 6 weeks. I was excited to get started on Metformin and a healthy diet. Since the day I was diagnosed I have been eating perfectly and exercising regularly (Tae-bo, walking and bike riding). I have not let one crumb of sweets touch my lips. As of today I have only lost 5 lbs. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy I lost 5 lbs, but for all the work and dedication it's not enough.
I'm not giving up, but I'm in desperate need of some encouragement.
If you feel that you want to do more to increase the rate, you can:
a) journal your food, and keep good track of your calories
b) tweak your exercise program so that you are working out a MINIMUM of 300 minutes per week and including at least 2 total body strength workouts.
c) consider adding interval training a couple times per week
d) increase the intensity of your workouts
e) consider working out twice a day (it's not as far fetched as it sounds. those of us at Fit Cysters are doing it.)
I would also encourage you to get the book Where Did All The Fat Go?. It's written by the doctor who created the weight loss program for all contestants of all seasons of The Biggest Loser.
The book details the weight loss program he created for the Season 3 "At Home" participants. It's a 'fitness' based program. Each chapter chronicles how much weight the women and men lost following his twice a day protocol.
Even if you don't follow it, it gives a good baseline for the amounts of weight 'other' people lose doing specific workouts and eating a certain way. He also offers very good arguments for 'intensity and duration' in workouts.
You should be really happy about 5 pounds...that's a good amount of weight loss!!
(but get the book...it's fascinating reading)

I did see a dietician and I am logging everything I eat...fat, calories, protein, sugar and carbs. It's a lot of work, but I've learned a lot. I'm just having one of those "down in the dumps" days.
I as well think that 5 pounds in 6 weeks is a great rate of weight loss!! Congratulations!! I know it can be frustrating and when we're working so hard we'd love to see even more come off. Keep up the good work and you're going to do great!! Keep us posted on future weight loss. Maybe that'll help!

I know it's frustrating not to see the lbs. fly off like on Biggest Loser, but slow and steady is what works in the long run. When I watch what I eat very carefully (I always exercise regularly) I can never lose more than a pound a week.
Also, if you're not that big to begin with, you'll lose it more slowly (a 300 lb woman needs more calories to "maintain" her weight than a 150 lb. woman, so she'll lose faster even if the 2 women do the same exercise and eat the same meals)
Thank you ladies for your support and encouragement. I have been working at it for 3 months now and I'm happy to say I've lost 13lbs! More importantly I feel great and my cycle has been more regular.
I want to chime in my agreement about increasing exercise intensity. Slow and steady cardio didn't do anything for me; it was only after I started doing interval training and training outside of my comfort zone that I began seeing results.

Congrats! 13lbs in 3 months is fantastic! That's almost 5lbs a month, which for me is a little far fetched at the moment. I'd be happy with 3-4. I wish you continued success, keep it up!
