Hi Diana,
Just thought I'd try and answer some of your questions. I'm hypo/PCOS and long term insomniac too!
I started on thyroxine in August and I started to see some improvements within a few weeks. They were gradual though and much of the time, I felt worse rather than better. At the beginning, people told me I would have to be patient but I didn't really get it. After nearly five months on the roller-coaster, I am very much getting it!
The main problem is getting your meds up to the right level for you. This can't be rushed as thyroxine takes a few weeks to really have any true effect on your cells. Once your meds are optimised, you should start seeing some real improvements in your energy leves, weight control and mental clarity. I'm not there yet but I'm hoping!
For me, the insomnia improved a little once I started adding Armour to my thyroxine but it is still there. I was able to sleep through the night but I still have to rely on sleeping pills often.
Most people seem to find too that their weight won't budge until their meds are optimised and they have been on a stable dose for a while.
Its a very hard period you are going through. Just make sure you read as much as you can as the doctors don't tend to tell you much.
I hope this helps. Let me know!
