Default Weight Loss with Metformin???

Hey guys,

My weight is a major issue for me (like for everyone ) but at 23 years of age I feel that combined with the facial hair (this disease is just great) that my confidence is taking a massive blow.

My gyn wants to put me on Metformin after my opp, and believes it will enable me to lose weight.

I was just wondering if any of you guys had found that this had helped them?

Cheers,

Once blood results are confirmed, starting on Metformin.

Hi,
if you have ever tried to diet, like I had, and gotten nowhere, then met should help. But I have found that on met at least my weight hasn't gone. What has really really helped for me is low carb whilst on met.

But beware, there are initial side effects to met, but your body does soon get used to it.

Good luck
Ali

Question Weight loss timing

How soon did you notice a weight loss after starting Met? I have been on 1500 MG for almost a month now and haven't lost a lb.or noticed a loss of hunger. I am not that overweight, about 15 lbs. and TTC. Do you know if everyone loses weight?

Hi, I started met about Feb. I have lost 71 pounds so far. I have not been low carbing or anything, and pretty much eat what I feel like. I think it has to have something to do with the met, as I was not doing much exercising until about 2 months ago. I did however, start out counting calories but have not done that for a long time and a rx the Dr put me on took away my appetite- but I have not been on that rx for about 6 mos.- I have never been able to lose weight, so I have always been heavy- until I started metformin. Good luck!!!

The first month I was on Met, I noticed that I lost a bit of weight but I honestly believe that that's because being on Met made me nauseous and therefore I didn't eat as much as I used to. Also after finding out I had PCOS, I started to eat low-carb meals and exercised a lot more.....this probably had a lot to do with it.

Met is limited on it's own. My first year I lost 13 pounds in 12 months, but I had 55 to lose, so it was s-l-o-w going. Then I got committed to exercise and started eating using the IR diet to control my insulin. It took 3 years, but combined with the met, I lost 62 pounds, my periods are regular and my hormones are normal now.

Met alone can do good things, but if you're committed to doing the work to help your hormones, it is an amazing thing.

Good luck!

i've been on met for a couple of months - 1000mg - and i've found my craving for sweet things has gone up massively. has this happened to anyone else? is there anything i can do? i've actually gained 14lbs and i really cannot afford to gain anymore weight - i'm at crisis level :(

i really am quite upset about this. i know that i need to stop eating, but i can't seem to stop the cravings.
