I just got diagnosed with PCOS. She gave me a prescription for glucophage, but I must be one of the rare individuals allergic to it-I ended up in the ER with asthma, facial swelling, hives, and a rash.
My husband and I want to start trying for a baby in April 2007. She gave me a round of prometrium and then I will go back on BCP for 3 months.
However, she strongly urged diet and excercise. Which I am all for. But has any one started ovulating just from diet and excercise?
She told me that if it comes down to it a fertility speacilist will not help me with such a high BMI.
So obviously I want to loose becuase of that, but my main question is has anyone started ovulating and gotten preg just from diet and excercise?
A fertility specialist WILL help you! I was 230 when I got pregnant by IUI (after a few tries) and my fertility guy never once mentioned my weight. Don't be discouraged, there are doctors out there who will help you!

I have heard stories here about ladies who have lost weight and started to ovulate.
I got pregnant after using Metformin for less than 2 months....but I also lost 20 lbs. in those 2 months.
My Doctor told me that there was no way to tell if the Metformin helped me get pregnant or if it was the weightloss.
WELCOME to SC and Good Luck!
I'm so sorry you had a bad reaction to the met. That must have been so scary.
I got pregnant while on met, but I had already begun to lose weight before I started met, so I'm like Erdine, it's hard to tell if it was one or the other, or a combination of both. In the year prior to getting pg I lost 102 pounds. I was on a basic low-calorie low-carb diet and walking or doing aerobics for exercise.
Sending you hugs and babydust
Jenny

Well, if any one person shifts the excess weight.. there will be a better chance of getting pregnant, and having a healthly pregnancy.. I mean it would be a good start and you'll be going into the right direction.
BTW, Welcome to SC - I'm new myself!
All The Best !!

Thanks gals! I appreaciate the support!!!! I am still going to loose the weight, because if I do get pregnant it will be a healthier pregnancy. Plus if there is a chance that it will help me ovulate then I'll do it!!!
I have taken Metformin since 2004, and used Clomid to conceive, but I just wanted to let you know that I lost 35 pounds earlier this year and have been ovulating pretty regularly, and I usually didn't ovulate before. I am a believer in the 10% weight loss theory.

Welcome -- sometimes, losing only 10% of your weight could help you ovulate. Perhaps you can set that as a "mini-goal?" I find that little steps always seem to motivate me than looking at the whole task.
