Question Weight Loss...yay or nay?

I was diagnosed with PCOS in Feb. at that time, I was 19. It's been 6 months since then and I figured all was going well....boy, was I wrong!! Really the only symptoms I had were some weight gain and missed periods, so of course I was told what I should and shouldn't eat and put on the birth control patch. Well, since Feb. I have lost close to 25 pounds without even dieting. I mean, it's just like the weight falls off and I dont really know what the problem is. I figure maybe it could have been the birth control patch, so I stopped wearing it, but that wasn't it either and while I was on the patch, I had my period normally and being off of the patch I have it normally....could i have been misdiagnosed?

Amanda,

just taking one look at your test levels tells me there IS something wrong. Anytime your LH is higher than your FSH, it's an indicator of PCOS, and yours is WAY higher. It is quite possible that both values are in the 'normal' range, but what matters for the diagnosis is their relation to each other.

Are these the only tests that were run? There are other tests that are usually done to diagnose PCOS.

Please read this article, if you haven't done so already. It'll explain more about PCOS and what the test values mean.

I don't know about the weight loss, that was just lucky, I suppose. What treatment did the doctor who diagnosed you suggest? A lot of cysters here are on Metformin, and it has done many great things for most of us, me included. Again, make yourself knowledgeable, and then decide your course of action and discuss it with your doctor.

Good luck and welcome to SoulCysters!

It cleared my brain fog, brought back af, helped me lose weight, made me o' again, and helped me get pregnant. My first Metformin miracle is now 3 years old, my second (surprise one) arrived December11!

I think you should have your pituitary checked.
