My Mood: Points: 184.63 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 184.63 | i have a similar problem. they were all se to put dye in my tubes for a scan in wales but them we moved up to scotland and the gynae here wont touch me with a barge pole. she told me that according to the body mass index i am obese that at 6ft i should be about 13 to 14 stone. if i weighed thatr i would be anorexic or dead. she told me to lose the weight before they would help me. since going to her i have put on at least two stone (could be more i dont weigh myself due to depression issues! ) thanks to comfort eating. i have been reading mesaages from other women in a similar state but older and although i feel really down most of the time i cant help feeling that i am luckier than alot of people. i suppose there is always a brightside to a certain extent. i convinced my gp to put me back on the metformin and will NOT be going back to dr fertility sadistic but will take my chances with my very helpful gp for as long as i can.
one question though, i have asked this a few times but havent recieved an answer as yet. i have been bleeding for nearly a year but the dr's dont seem to know why. any ideas??? xxx

I am still trying to lose more weight and we are still TTC.
In the UK if you want to try IVF even if you pay yourself most Hospitals will not treat you unless your BMI is below 30.

'My weight did not stop me'
Debra's story
The NHS excludes many women who are obese from fertility treatment.
Experts acknowledge there should be a threshold, but believe the NHS should be more flexible than it is currently.
When Debra Howarth decided to seek fertility treatment she thought there would be no problem.
Aged 38 when she applied for treatment last autumn, she was within the NHS recommended guidelines.
What is more the government had told NHS trusts to fund at least one cycle of IVF treatment.
But it was not to be so simple for Ms Howarth, who is now 39, as she was told she was two stone overweight with a body mass index of 32.
She said: "I was shocked when they told me I was two stone overweight.
"The staff at the clinic said I needed to lose weight or pay for the treatment myself.
Money
"I had just lost my niece to cancer and my feet were in plaster from an operation I had had. It was a very emotional time.
"We did not have the money to pay for the treatment, I didn't know what to do, I was getting older and feared my chance may have passed me by.
"I am someone who has always been on diets, trying to lose a bit of weight. But I never considered myself really overweight and certainly not enough to stop me having a family."
How many people are denied treatment and could get pregnant too?

But then by chance Ms Howarth, an NHS kitchen superintendent from Barnsley, entered a competition on the TV programme This Morning and won £5,000.
"I could not believe it. We knew immediately what we would do with it. We paid for IVF and got pregnant first time.
"I now have just seven weeks to go and can't wait. But I do wonder what would have happened if I had not won that competition.
"They said because of my age and weight, my chances of becoming pregnant were lower. But I got pregnant first time.
"How many people are denied treatment and could get pregnant too? It is not fair."

My Mood: Points: 436.33 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 436.33 | How crazy and amazing!! To be turned down then win the money and get preg the first try! I've been here with my ex-RE he was a donk. He was so proud to tell me that he and his whole family all were on this super low carb diet and no sugar. I feel bad for his kids and he looks like he could stand to gain a few pounds. Then he proceeded to lecture me about starving children in Africa and if all I had to eat was eggs I'd be fine and eat them. I was surviving off of meat and eggs and got to the point were the smell of cooking eggs would turn my stomach and one bite would have me running to the bathroom.
I will stop my rant I finally got smart and now have a great Ob and see a specalist for PCOS tomorrow!! Good Luck ladies and keep the info comming! |

My Mood: Points: 307.09 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 307.09 | Thanks for posting this! This is VERY encouraging... I'm overweight, have been trying for 2 years to loose weight... lost 60 pounds from Jan to June, then got into an accident and stopped working out, stopped following the diet I was on... and now I've gained back about 25 pounds. The first doc I saw said that I had to loose a lot of weight before she would help me... but I've been researching and FINALLY found a doc in our area who said that he would help me. I'm trying to get back on track with my diet and exercise but since I'm already 36, I'm going to see the doctor in January. |

I'm so glad to have come across this post...I recently lost weight a few months ago in hopes of helping my pcos but then I quit smoking and I've gained close to 15lbs back!!! I know it's better to quit but, it's soooo hard to lose weight! To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. Is great that they're doing more research on this, that you are fat doesn't mean that yous shouldn't have the right to be a mother! Also, I'm 60 pounds overweight, diagnosed with pcos 6 months ago and I had a miscarriage last february, let me tell you this gives me a lot of hope, specially when fighting against my infertility!
