I am needing a general practitioner as I've only had an RE for the past few years. I am overweight and do understand that it is not healthy. But at the same time I have other health questions and concerns. I saw a new doctor a month ago and followed up once but it seemed like there were just three people lecturing me on my weight and asking me which diets I've tried and what I was going to do next.
The reason I went to the dr in the first place is because I have horrible migraines that interfere with my life. I am often incredibly tired no matter how much I sleep and I am very often running to the bathroom right after I eat anything (TMI). The response I got was that if I lost weight I'd feel better. I am sure I would. But the fatigue has really gotten worse the past few months and I have been overweight longer than that. My bloodwork is pretty normal other than cholesterol.
It has been very difficult to begin any type of exercise regime when I feel like crap, my head hurts, my vision is blurry, I'm neaseous, or feel like I can't be 2 feet from a bathroom. So basically yea, I got no other advice but to try a new diet, get more exercise, and consider gastric bypass.
I can't lose 150 pounds over night, and I haven't been able to lose much of anything feeling this way. I wonder, what am I supposed to do in the meantime. I'm scared there might be an actual problem that is being overlooked because of my weight.
Any suggestions for Doctors that are friendly to overweight patients (not that they overlook it, but that they don't throw every problem you have into the fat file)

Until you can get a new doctor, you might want to direct your 'current' doctor add a note to your file: 'Patient presented with on-going symptoms for migraine headache and depression. The only remedy suggested at this time is weight loss."
Explain to your doctor that you want it on record that 'weight loss' is the only treatment option they are offering you - in case your symptoms become worse, and another doctor wants to know what this doctor recommended.
And say it with a smile

What jerks! I remember several years ago I had went to a doctor for extreme fatigue and severe migranes all she did was lecture me about my weight. I told her that I was too tired and in too much pain by the time I got home from work to exercise and that is why I was there. She told me "I don't care how tired you are, you need to force yourself to spend 30 or more minutes on that treadmill." I felt defeated. I really hope that someone can direct you to a doctor who will take you seriously and find the real cause of your problems!
