Default Weird lumps on neck - any thoughts?

Hi Cysters,

I've struggled with acne most of my life, but lately I've been getting these weird zit-like things at the base of my neck. They're not like normal zits and they're not skin tags - I'm not sure what they are or what to try to do to treat them. Basically they're like painful lumps under my skin, red, but don't pop or have any puss (sorry if that was gross). Has anyone else had these or can recommend something to get them to clear up? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Jenny

My friend recently had something like you are describing and her doctor dxed her with goiters(sp?). As far as I know, they are benign and are common on the neck area.

It could be something else, but I just wanted to give you a theory.

Default lumps

I get them all the time, they are like little pea sized lumps right? I pick at them like crazy and make them worse. As far as I know they are swollen lymph nodes. Some people get them on their neck and sometimes into their hair line. The best thing to do is to leave them alone and not pick at them!

It might also be a Sebatious Cyst. My husband gets them all the time. Basically a sac forms inside a pore, and is "fed" by clogged skin oils and never goes away. His look like a pea-sized to marble sized lumps under the skin, and there's usally one big pore on the top. A few of his expelled some thick, white "stuff" and it was the trapped skin oil. He finally had to have his removed (they run in his family.) The dermatologist used a skin punch and after putting in a local pain killer popped it right out and stitched it up. He barely has any scars from the removal. He got one a few weeks ago on his shoulder, that unlike the rest, was really painful and turned red, so I suggested he go in and see if it was infected. It was and he's now on antibiotics, and once it's healed, they will remove this one as well. The most common placed to get them are the back of the neck, back and torso. Keeping the area exfoliated and taking essential oils seems to help some people from getting more.

Good luck regardless of what it turns out to be, and I hope you can get it taken care of!
