Well I went today... and he thought I was touched in the head....
Hi Everyone,
I'm a newbie.... and wanted to thank everyone for being so wonderful on here. I would have to say this is by far the best site I have been on yet! Today I went to my OBGYN, and I asked him several questions that have been on my mind. I guess I should start by telling my story, as short as I can. (sorry cause it's a book, and I am leaving out A LOT)
When I was 18 years old I was diagnosed with PCOS.... but while being diagnosed they also thought I had Cushings. I was then sent to a hospital 45 minutes away where I stayed for 10 days or more, and had blood taken every 2 hours, and 24 hour urine collection... ewwww I know..... This wouldn't have been so bad except for the fact that I had to go back 4 times, before I felt enough was enough. I was told... still a child in my eyes, that I could possibly have a brain tumor, and that they would have to do "exploratory surgery" to see what was going on. They would not talk to my parent as 18 is a legal adult. The doctor I had was "world renouned" and in my eyes was VERY unethical, and had no bedside manners what so ever. He would call me at all hours of the night to tell me my results, as late as 11pm. Needless to say I was told I didn't have Cushings but he wanted me to return for more testing. I told him to go to hell, and he told me I would regret it, and hung up. I was left with the results that I had PCOS and not "Cushings".
So here I am 10 years later, getting married in August and wanting to have a child more then anything. My fiance is amazing and understands for the most part what I am going through. Today I went to my OB to talk about the medication I am currently on and what steps I need to take to TTC. He asked me first off if we are TTC, and I told him, "yes and no" he looked at me like I was completely touched in the head. I didn't mean to confuse him, but what I mean by that was, we are getting married in August, if god blessed us with a child right now, we would be delighted, but I would like to wait till after the wedding to go on Clomid. He explained to me that he is optimistic on me getting pregnant but I will need some help. Which I completely understand and already knew. I don't really know what answers I was looking for, I guess I am just so used to not getting the results, and I am scarred and needed reassured that I can TTC. I asked him too, why I was never given an ultrasound to see about Enlarged Uterus, or actual Cysts on my Ovaries, and he said he would set one up for me, but it was not necessary to diagnose PCOS, my labs have 100% proved that I have PCOS. So I walked out feeling okay I guess, I have a ultrasound (don't know that I need it or not) scheduled for the 8th of Feb. He upped my Met to 850mg 2 times daily, which I will start once my 500mgs are done and back on Folic Acid. Like I said I don't know what I was expecting from him, but I am glad I got to talk to him about TTC.
Hugs to All,
Jen

Jen - glad you found a better doctor, sounds like you have a good one now that you are comfortable with. Congrats on the wedding in August, weddings are so much fun

Thanks Ladies, for 10 years, he has implied that it will be hard to concieve, due to not ovulating, but when I went to visit him the other day he said he was very optimistic that we would be able to concieve with a little help of our friend clomid. I really am happy to find a place that I can share my feelings with.

Your first doctor sounds like he was working for the money not the patient! Sounds like the move you made was a good one. What ever made them think you had a brain tumor? From the results of the tests? Definitely second opinion time on that one, if you're not having headaches or other signs why would they even look at that?
Best of luck on your upcoming marriage, how exciting. Clomid is a good thing, it helped me to have my daughter so many years ago.
