I had bloodwork at my new doctor and I am hypothyroid and have antibodies. I am feeling conflicted in that, finally I have a doctor who believes me and did correct testing and we have answers, yet...I really hoped it wasn't what I had suspected all along. You know what I mean?
Do any of you take Thyrosol? Doc suggested this. Is that the same thing as Armour or should I just ask for that? I did some research on this before but getting the diagnosis kind of threw me off. Thanks for any help.

Hey, 'congrats' on getting your diagnosis.... I think you know what I mean
I googled Thyrosol and it looks like it's a weight loss supplement offered by Metagenics. It is not a prescription and I don't believe it's intended to be thyroid replacement.
Were you diagnosed with Hashi's? If so, I would definitely recommend Armour. You need to be on a high enough dose to suppress your thyroid, to eliminate the extreme ups and downs you experience.
I'm sure you've already checked them out, but if not, be sure to do lots of reading on http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com and http://www.realthyroidhelp.com . You will find tons of information there and from that you should be able to decide which direction you want to go in your treatment.
I know what you mean, it is a little bittersweet. But look on the bright side, now you can be on your way to feeling better instead of suffering needlessly.
I did some research on Thyrosol because I hadn't heard of it before. Check out this website because it has a review about it. Here is some of the information I found on it. http://www.skinnyondiets.com/Thyrosol.html?b=7924
This product is advertised to generate weight loss through increasing the production of the thyroid gland. Thyrosol® is also said to increase energy levels and improve cognitive function. The manufacturers of this supplement claim that not only will they increase the activity of the thyroid this product will also ensure it is working as needed. As a whole, this product does include all natural ingredients, some of which may offer health benefits to the body.
From what I understand, this isn't a replacement for Armour, but something that you can take in addition to. Did your doctor put you on any thyroid meds at your last appointment? If not, you should really contact him ASAP to see what your best options are to begin treatment.

Thank you ladies. I did call my doc yesterday afternoon and we chatted about the Thyrosol and that I wasn't 100% sold on it. So I asked about the Armour. She said that would be wonderful to go on for me and gladly wrote the script. I will be picking it up today and starting it tomorrow morning. Now I need to get up to speed on Armour.

Congrats on getting the script!! I wish my doctor would hand one over so easily...grrr
This is the info I've found in my Armour research:
Start out low, 1/2 to 1 grain once a day, and ramp up by 1/2 grain every 2 weeks until you're at 2 1/2 grains (spread out during the day), then slow the raises down to 1/4 grain every 6 weeks until optimized.
I've also read that it works better if you let it dissolve in your mouth as opposed to swallowing it. And that it's best to spread the dose throughout the day instead of just once a day.
Here are the dosage conversions, as they can be confusing:
15 mg (1/4 grain)
30 mg (1/2 grain)
60 mg (1 grain)
90 mg (1 ˝ grains)
120 mg / 2 grains
180 mg / 3 grains
240 mg / 4 grains
300 mg / 5 grains
Hope that helps! And I hope the Armour makes you start feeling better really soon Keep us updated!
If you have Hashi's antibodies I would caution you against using anything that stimulates your thyroid. It sounds like this Thyrosol could do that. When you thyroid is stimulated the antibodies then attack the thyroid and try to destroy it. They antibodies think it is a foreign body and when this goes unchecked it eventually destroys the gland completely. The same thing happens with iodine supplementation and other stimulants like green tea.
With Hashi's antibodies you want to keep your thryoid "quiet" and replace the T4 and T3 that would have been produced by it - that is where Armour or Synthroid come in. I'm concerned that your doctor would recommend something like Thyrosol when you have Hashi's.
Babs67...I had also heard about the need to suppress the thyroid so it does not allow the body to attack it. (I am sure I worded that wrong). Anyway, I was not thrilled with the Thyrosol selection offered so I asked about Armour. She was glad to write the script and it is now in my possession. YAY!! I start taking it tomorrow.

What a blessing that your doctor was so willing to write the RX for you!
I stick mine (armour) under my tongue before I go to bed and just let it dissolve there... it's usually done by the time I'm asleep.
