Hello everybody - new to this forum and SO pleased I have found it to have some mutual support from fellow sufferers. PCOS is becoming a serious pain in my life!
I was diagnosed just over a year ago after being rushed into hospital dropping with pain - after numerous tests the doctors claimed I do NOT have a hormonal imbalance (despite me pointing out that everytime they tested them, it was at the beginning of my cycle - when I feel most balanced!)
An ultrasound scan showed my ovaries were 3 times the normal size - ouch. I had an operation to try and help this condition this time last year but over the last few months the symptoms are getting worse.
By the way, I am slim and otherwise healthy.
What I have started noticing over the last few months is quite severe ovarian pain (usually on the right side) from about 14 days into my cycle - which lasts until I start my period. Does anybody else have this?
The one thing I am starting to struggle with just lately is the psychological effect (I assume the hormones) are having on me. PMS just gets worse - for 10-14 days before I start my period I feel very anxious, tearful, irritable, restless, nauseous, dizzy, fainting, etc.etc. Then as soon as my period starts I feel fine again!
I now bleed fairly regularly 30 days or so, but have just read on here that it may not be ovulating every month...? What is going on then? Anybody have any experience with increasingly bad PMS and hormonal roller coaster every month!?!? I can't cope if this gets much worse...
I am not taking anything for PCOS but feel I need to start soon ! At the moment, my doctor just says to sort my diet out and take B vitamins - but I have a good diet already...
Hi Sarah, & Welcome!
I'm like you & have fairly regular periods, I also have the dull to moderate pain that I know comes from my ovaries, mostly on my left side. It used to be much more severe, but since taking Metformin & have laparoscopic surgery, it has decreased significantly.
I have dealt w/ painful cycles pretty much since I started at 12.5 yrs. I was officially diagnosed in 2002, but in 1996 the dr's thought I had PCOS w/ I had to be taken to the ER for a suspected appendicitis. Not so funny, 2 yrs later, I did have an appendicitis, but ignored the symptoms b/c I thought it was my ovaries, thankfully went to the ER in time.
B vitamins are very very helpful for me, I take a Super B Complex vitamin, and have really noticed a huge improvement. I also take Vitamin D3, about 3000mg for me personally, and that has made a HUGE difference in energy levels, pms, etc. In Kat's links (she's so awesome!) I think she has something in there about how Vit D deficiency is linked to PCOS, especially the ovulation dysfunction we all deal with.
Anyway, welcome again, you have definitely come to the right place to learn more and be supported.
Hi and welcome. I hope you find all you need here. Just a note....if you are not totally comfortable with your Ob's decisions, find one that you trust 100%. My OB will listen and help me with research and then will try anything that I bring to him. I can say I can't wait to get pregnant to fulfill my desires and to show him the fruit from his labors! lol

Totally agree with you! I feel the same way about mine. Its weird, he's the first dr. I have ever trusted 100%. And its exactly for those reasons.

hey there... i read your post and knew EXACTLY what you were going through. I was just diagnosed with pcos this past month but for years i have had extremely bad pain near where my ovaries are. Last year my doctor finally decided to look into it and i had a pelvic ultrasound done, only for the doc to tell me i was totally fine and he had no idea where the pain was coming from.
This year my periods started to become really messed up, i missed my period a couple months in a row or id get it two times a month, or have it for a really long time.i started getting really bad pms also. I also weighed 130lbs and in just over a month had gone up to 160lbs. (im now 165lbs and struggling to get down since ive never been this heavy before)
I decided to complain to my doctor some more and another pelvic ultrasound was done, along with a bunch of blood tests. The results were crazy! they found that both my ovaries were alot bigger than they should be and that i had tons and tons of cysts all over them.
the doctor told me i was producing wayyyy too many eggs and none of them were ovulating, they were all just turning into cysts.
i was then told that i shud either try to have kids as soon as possible, or be put straight onto the pill. that way i can become regulated. The doctor said the longer you wait the more chance you have of something going wrong (your ovaries can twist, rupter ect.) if you dont do anything about it....
Wow, I so understand! My ovaries were each double the size of my uterus. I had surgery and my OBGYN did some ovarian drilling which made the size so much smaller. Then she followed up with shots of Lupron Depot to keep them shrinking and it's worked so far. She can't even feel my ovaries anymore they are so much smaller and while I do still have pain, she said it's just recuperating pain and will go away soon. Plus the paiLn is much less frequent and usually much less severe. If the shots didn't work my dr. was gonna wedge my ovaries to make them smaller. One of my first doctors tried the whole vitamin B thing and it didn't do anything for me. You might want to try another doctor...Let me know if I can help in anyway or provide more info you might need. I really feel for you!
