Default Wellbutrin?

I went back to the doctor yesterday. She is taking me off of effexor and starting wellbutrin. I am kind of nervous about it. The effexor worked really well in the beginning but the last week or so I've been having CRAZY dreams and nightmares! My husband says I've gotten moody again. I've noticed I've been kind of mean acting again. I HATE that I need drugs to control my depression and mood swings! But I definitely realize they help. I just want to find what's right for me! I hate feeling like I'm some kind of "experiment". I don't know anything about wellbutrin. I've seen some commercials on tv. I was reading the paper that came with it and it said there is risk of seizure with some people! That's all I need! She also said I need to take it in the morning. I take my effexor at night cause it makes me so sleepy. I guess wellbutrin wakes you up. If any of you ladies are taking wellbutrin I would love to know how it makes you feel, good/bad side effects. Thank you.

Doesn't anybody take wellbutrin? I've heard it is a newer drug, but I figured at least a FEW of the ladies here take it.

I took Wellbutrin a while back, but for a different reason. I took it to help me quit smoking. It worked! I had NO side effects with it, other than not feeling hungry (which is not such a horrible thing!!) I tapered off of it about a month after I quit smoking, because it's not a great drug to be on if you're TTCing.

Good luck!

Get involved in animal rescue. You won't be sorry. Your heart may break, there may be times when your eyes are red-rimmed for days. You may lose faith in the goodness of people, but your spirit will be renewed by the resilience of those you save. It isn't easy, but it's worth it. I promise you, you will be forever changed.

I take wellbutrin. My doc said that it is safe for ttc and pregnancy and I know that there are other cysters on it. The good thing about it is that they say it starts to work quicker than the 4 wks it takes some antidepressants. In about 2-3 days I noticed that my racing thoughts had stopped and I was starting to feel better. It works well for me, but it is a trial and error process. Good luck. I hope that you are feeling better soon.

Lori,
I am on Wellburtin again I was on Lexapro and was not feeling any better. I have been on the Wellburtin for about 3 weeks now and really starting to feel better. I took Wellburtin about 2 years ago and did great on it so great I was able to come off it. I was just Dx with Bipolar and my Dr feels this is one of the better ones to be on with this. Best of luck with it all.

I take it and I love it. At first I got a really crazy on it. Everything was just raceing. I had the feeling that I needed to run ( I can't run a block without feeling I am going to die) so I went on the treadmill, started walking, then jogging, then running...and I kept making the speed go higher and higher till it wouldn't go any higher and I kept that up for a good hour or so. I was also cranky but I got over that and I'm really happy now...if i miss it though or take it late I fall apart and spend all day in tears but I really like it altogether because I can see a huge change inmyself.

I have been feeling really cranky too! I hope that goes away soon! (Leany) It gives me hope that you got to feeling happy after a while. I feel so discouraged. Like nothing is going to work right for me! Thank you for the info.

I would give it some time...it took me a while, and I was getting discouraged too. My physc. great and doesn't give me anything that will make me gain weight and after trying countless drugs I like this one best. Others made me suicidle ect. If it doesn't work for you try a different one untill you find one perfect for you.

GOOD LUCK!

I've never taken Wellbutrin, I take Zoloft, but I gotta tell you... My mother-in-law has been taking Wellbutrin for years and the woman has the craziest mood swings I've ever seen. Always yelling. Definitely not working for her. She's also still a smoker.
Of course, everyone's different, and I also don't know her dosage...

I had been on Celexa for years but ended up depressed again. The doctor added Wellbutrin and it worked real fast, I felt almost like myself after one week. I thought I only needed the wellbutrin and stopped the celexa for two months but mood swings and wild PMS sent me back to the doctor for Celexa again. I guess my brain needs both drugs to be normal. It sucks having to take pills to feel normal but I certainly can't live the other way.

I'm taking both Wellbutrin XR and Lexapro. The Wellbutrin balances out the Nor-epinephrine and the Lexapro balances out the Dopimine. My psych says it's best (for my situation) to use the combo and I have never felt better in my life. I've been on it since the beginning of May.

ETA: I have been on Paxil, Sarafem and zoloft...none did the job completely, somthing was missing. (and the Zoloft made me suicidal. I'm also TTC, and my Psych says these are both safe to take and she encourages me to stay on it esp since your hormones go wacky, which would be nice because my first pregnancy I'm amazed I didn't kill anyone including myself! It was awful on my mental health.

When you say racy, how exactly.. I desperately need to take it. I am terrified about the possible seizure side effect and that I will be completely different. I am having so much trouble concentrating and have no energy at all. I have also been on prozac and zoloft and it both had different reactions for me. The thing is that I can't even tell DH because he is 100% against these kind of drugs .. any replies would help..Thanks

ahhhh I hate reading the warnings! They are just covering their butts against law suits.

It's kinda like your warning on your blowdryer that says not to use in the tub!

keep us posted!

I am on wellbutrin also. Took it 6 years ago to quit smoking and it worked like a charm for me and DH. Then about a year ago or so was having the worst depression episodes ever and my endo put me on it also to help w/ food cravings. Had to increase the dosage to 300mg. On 150 mg the "episodes" were fewer and farther in between, but when I got them they were twice as bad. That scared me. So far (luckily) the 300mg dosage has been very successful! They tried lexapro on me, but had sexual side effects which I was NOT going to tolerate, lol.

Good luck to you!
