My doctor talked to me yesterday about possibly putting me on Wellbutrin because of my irritability. I chose not to for right now since I am also starting Metformin and want to do one new drug at a time. Can anyone give me some experiences on Wellbutrin? Did it work for you? S/E's? Things I should know? I havent decided exactly if I want to be on it. TIA.
Well, I had hellacious migraines when I tried it. I'm prone to them anyway, and this triggered them every single time I took it. I figured it out after the fourth time (days I'd forgotten to take it: normal. Days I took it: flat on my back in a dark quiet room with a pillow over my head). So I never got far enough to find out if it worked for me or not.
I am on Wellbutrin XL, 300mg daily. It works for me with my other meds. Sometimes it can cause anxiety and irritability, and for the first 2 weeks or so, it can make you feel kind of speedy. It also can lead to weight loss because of lack of appetite. Don't take generic wellbutrin!
I was on wellbutrin a few years ago and it made me very very dizzy. dizzy to the point where i couldn't go to school. i had to change meds after a couple of weeks.
I was on welbutrin for about 2 months, from the day i took it untill the day i stopped taking it, i always had terrible nausea. I would constantly be in class and have to run to the bathroom to vomit. Eventually after 2 weeks of taking it -- i started feeling really dizzy. I passed out twice on it.
but like doctors say.. medication always works differently for different people. Also welbutrin is also used for people to "quit smoking." i know the doctor who prescribed it to me made sure i didnt smoke because it would of effected me more he said.
god firbid i wouldnt want to see what it would of done to me if i did smoke. i think it was something like "zyban" for the name that they gave for the smoking thing..
DH was on it for a while, and he didn't really have any s/e that I remember. Then my (former) stupid doctor put me on it and it was horrible. I had very bad insomnia (I started rearranging the living room at 3 am) and had an extremely bad panic attack that lasted for several hours. I was freaking out, crying uncontrollably for no reason, hyperventilating, etc. After that I stopped taking it, and the next day had a pretty obvious shaking in my arms and legs, at some points of the day it was hard to stand or hold things. No s/e from coming off it besides that. After that, along with bad experiences with Prozac and Effexor, I refuse to take any antidepressants.
They can be great, but not for everybody.
I agree, everyone reacts differently to meds. I was on Wellbutrin SR and at first it seemed okay, I had a HUGE boost in energy. Two problems for me though....first my Dr. was using it to aid in depression when I think I actually was suffering more from anxiety and the Wellbutrin made me more anxious. My mind goes fast enough without meds, and on Wellbutrin it was spinning out of control! Second, it made my blood pressure go sky high! I don't have blood pressure issues at all, I'm always in the healthy range. However, while taking Wellbutrin my blood pressure was very unhealthy. Stopped taking it....and magically my blood pressure went back to normal. Off topic, way back when I had an issue with a high pulse rate on BCP's (not having any issues on Yaz right now though). So maybe I'm just a freak of nature, but I do remember finding some info on a forum that claimed others were having blood pressure issues too (too many things have happened since to remember for sure). Good luck I hope you are able to find something that helps

Don't take it! I have been on Wellbutrin for 5 months and my hair is falling out. I kept asking my doctor and pharmacist if this is a s/e of the med and they said no. Well, I looked on the web and it appears to be, especially in women. I am taper off right now.
Never tried Wellbutrin but I was on Effexor for anxiety (75mg a day). It was working quite well for me but eventually I started getting too tired on them (I would be falling asleep just from sitting. Effexor made me gain 30lbs in 6 months (this is with dieting & excerising 5x per week) and when I got off I was very angry and lost 10lbs instantly. It also caused my cholesterol levels to sky rocket!
I have heard lots of great things about Wellbutrin. I would give it a try and moniter any changes you are having with them and let your doc know about them.
I still suffer from anxiety but am getting help through councelling, staying away from caffeine and lots of excerise. I really recomend councelling because you may be able to get off the meds.
