Unhappy Wellbutrin wearing off?

I've been on Wellbutrin for about 9 months now. I don't feel the effects of it anymore. About three weeks ago I hit a major depression and almost slipped into clinical. I'm only taking 100mgs and don't really want to go higher than that. Has anybody else had the same problem or is it just me? Has anyone changed from Wellbutrin to something else and had better results?

I was on Wellbutrin for only 6 months before weaning off of it-
I had a problem when I was on the wrong dose (made me feel suicidal).... and as soon as I was bumped up to 150 mg (I believe) I felt like Wellbutrin was actually doing something for me. My NP said this happens more often than not while on Wellbutrin--- I wanted off eventually as I had worked through a really bad time in my life... and wanted to be off it--- before starting Metformin....and before I started fertility treatment. I know this doesn't really help you with your question--- because I never got to the point where I felt it wasn't working---- I hope someone else can help you---

Wellbutrin is certainly not for everyone. I happened to have had good results while I was on it, but I have known some people who became more irritable and violent-tempered when they took it. As for whether it wears off, well, my experience was that I got to a certain point of feeling "normalized"-- that is, I didn't feel the tremendous giddy up-swing that I constantly felt at the beginning after the initial side effects wore off. I didn't crash down while I was on it-- I did have a few bad weeks when weaning off the stuff, though. A precaution to everyone: if you are weaning off Wellbutrin, do it GRADUALLY. If you're on the 300 dose, go down to 250 for a week, then 200, then 150, then 100, and finally (and this is the part that I didn't do, since I didn't know any better,) DO NOT GO FROM THE 100 DOSE DOWN TO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!! Instead, take a pill every other day for a week. Then, every third day. When you get to a point where it's every seventh day, you can quit. I discovered that valuable info too late!!!

Thanks for the feedback ladies. I think I've been on it for too long. I've never taken more than 100mgs, so I think I may need to ask for more mgs to feel better, or just wean myself off of it all together. I'm just feeling like it's doing absolutely nothing for me now. I also felt the "giddy up" feeling at first, then it just tapered off to normal, now I'm depressed off and on. I think my therapist is going to bump me up to 300mgs.

Thanks again

Don't just settle, you deserve better than that. Insist on an increase, or a trial on a different medication. Let us know how it goes. Lendi
