Default Went to the endo, but no met?

I'm sorry if this question has been asked before.

I had my first endo appointment in 2 years today and went to see the same Dr. as before. Last time she gave me an RX for met on my 1st appointment and sent me in for blood work. Today she scheduled me for blood work in 2 weeks, but said I would need to wait 3 weeks for met b/c it would depend on the blood work. My insulin levels are always normal, but I still have blood-sugar issues that for some reason don't show up on tests.

I guess my question is - if my insulin levels are normal (and she did not order a 3 hour GTT) how can I justify to the Dr. that I'm a candidate for met?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Well my insullin levels were normal, and my Dr. prescribed Met 1000mg a day for my PCOS and to help the hirsutism...

How are your hormone levels? My testosterone was out of range so that might have been one of my "candidates" for the Met...

Good Luck and let us know how it goes!

My testosterone is elevated and the usual LH/FSH ratio typical of PCOS. However, I have heard of drs. who only go by the insulin and blood glucose results in determining IR.

Thanks for your response. I was just distressed that I've waited so long for some treatment. I will just keep plugging at different Drs. if this doesn't work out.

Hrm. I told my Endo (I saw him the first time Monday) that I had PCOS and I was pretty sure I was IR, even though my blood sugar was normal.

He prescribed the met after checking kidney and liver function, but didn't test any hormones. I think he figured I was IR after he saw the AN (big, patchy brown spots) that I had all over my neck. Do you have any of the other symptoms of IR?

Teresa
