I starting gaing weight when I hit puberty. I remembered by very depressed and self conscious about myself and weight. I lost weight when I was 18 but still had a thickness to me. When I was 23, I miscarried (I think it was a chemical pregnancy). At the time I thought it was something I did wrong. Now when I think back, I realized all of this had to do with the onset of PCOS. It was dorminant prior to puberty. Oh well. I'm 31 now - no kids - not ttc - don't have no one to ttc whith LOL!!! But if I have no about this condition in my teens and 20's, I would have save myseld alot of heartache and pain. Now I have to go and undo all of the damage to myself and selfworth which is a long a tedious process.
I'm not to mad because now I know whats going on with me and I can do something about. |

I was 110 lbs until I was18 in a size 5. Then I got preg with daughter #1 went up to 180 pounds lost 20 lbs so that put me to 160. Preg for daughter #2 went up to 195 and stood there. Could not lose a pound for anything. Then got Pg for daughter #3 went to 205 and again could not lose anything. Then the pounds would just come and come until I was 223. That is when I was finally dx pcos. Was put on metformin lost 27 pounds which put me to 196 and last time I went to the dr in October I was back up at 202. I have an appointment with the endo Tomorrow morning.....lets see what I weigh.
Happy Holidays

I started gaining when I was 19 or 20, mainly because I wasn't eating right and a lot less active than I was in school. Then I suppose PCOS made the weight stay. I wouldn't mind being that thin again, small boobs and all.. or maybe add another 10 lbs, I'd be happy!

I believe I've had pcos since I first hit puberty, @ age 13, b/c I've never been regular on my own. I remember gaining weight in high school even though I walked a couple miles a day and really watched what I ate. Now I'm extremely heavy (and I hate it!!). I still battle w/ the self-esteem side of things, even though I know it's not my fault I'm so big.

My Mood: Points: 2,360.68 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 2,360.68 | Yeah, I was thin. Puberty hit and I"d fluctuate here and there.
At 17 yrs the insane pcos hunger hit me and I could't stop eating. I"d shake and my guts would rumble for food. I went to 172 lbs. No Dr. knew what was wrong with my stomache growling all the time like it was.
That weird hunger tamed down on it's own several years later and now I appear to be stuck at 153 lbs.
I'm glad you posted this question as I am in a real funk this morning over my difficulty losing weight. Venting helps, thanks.

Points: 10,434.39 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 10,434.39 | thank you for posting this question. I was thinner when I was young but always a little "chunky." I started seeing the weight gain in my later teens. I was on the weight team in HS and bulked up a bit from the workouts but didn't really gain all my weight until after HS when I got a sitdown job and went on the pill for 3 years. I was 170 at HS graduation and by 21 had gained 100 lbs! I had always attributed the weight gain to genetics as I have a large italian family and most of us are overweight.
At the time of my weight gain, PCOS was just coming into the spotlight and not much was known. My gyno at the time thought it could be that but didn't know much about it (and since I was not ttc I didn't feel the need to go thru the blood tests to find out - what a dope!) I also went from having sporadic cycles to none for 2 years after stopping the BCP. Then when AF showed her ugly head, I thought my insides were falling out it was so heavy, but she only stayed the regular 8 days so I thought it was just a build up from the BCP that was clearing out. |

My Mood: Points: 7,779.82 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 7,779.82 | At age 18 I was 115lbs and wore a size 5. Then around the age of 20-21yr I started gaining weight. Not too quickly at first but then by the time I was 23 I had gained alot of weight now I am 29 and weigh 220lbs and wear anywhere from a size 20-24 depending on how the pants are made. It is rather frustrating but is nice to know that the PCOS causes the weight gain and that is not my poor judgement on diet or exercise. |

I haven't been able to lose the weight though. Then pregnancy happened and I gained a ton of weight way too soon and can't get rid of it now that I'm not pregnant. I totally understand how women gain 100s of pounds by having kids. It seemed like I could actually SEE my body getting fatter by the day.

Now I'm at 160 and climbing actually eating better and exercising. that was one symptom that helped my doc diagnose me. I know 160 may not sound like a lot, but i'm only 5'3" and very very small boned. Its frustrating

I lost weight 9th grade (got active in ROTC and the volleyball team) and maintained my size during high school. Freshman year of college I gained the normal 15, but lost it all...it wouldn't stick. Suddenly after January of my sophomore year, I started piling on pounds that wouldn't budge! That's when I was dx with PCOS.

My Mood: Points: 631.95 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 631.95 | I didn't start to gain weight until I was 25. Before that I was in the 160 range, now I weigh 180. The weight came on all of a sudden for me. My heaviest was 196. Being 5'4 and weighing that much put alot of strain on my body. None of the doctors thought it was strange for the weight gain but I was told to simply lose weight. I actually self diagnosed myself and told my doctor I needed to be tested for PCOS. I was officially dx on Dec. 17, 2006 (funny how we can remember stuff like that).
