My name is Darcy and I have a wonderful 12 year old daughter
Brittany. This is more about Brittany than myself. I am 37 and have
ALWAYS had irregular periods, exess facial hair, and I weigh approx.
300 lbs. and can never seem to get it off.
My daughter Brittany is 12, has hed her period for almost 3 years now
(still irregular), has major excess facial and body hair, is about
220 lbs and 5'4" tall.
I have never been tested for PCOS myself, but am going to ask the
doctor to refer me to a Endo at my next visit.
Brittany, on the other hand, has been seeing a nutrtionist for about
3 years now because of her weight problem. Her Pediatrician finally
suggested we go to an Endo and have some tests run. We went to see
this guy twice, he had some tests run and lots of the results were on
the normal-high side of the normal range. So he wants more tests
run .... unfortunately, after her second visit with him, we see all
over the news that this Dr. has been arrested for misconduct with his
patients. Before his arrest he had mentioned some additional tests
that needed to be run. We have gone back to her Ped. and he wont
order the tests because he does not know what they are for, or what
to do about them if he does order them. We are desperately searching
for another Endo in our area that will take my daughter. All of them
that we have contacted say that she is to young, and they only take
adults. We do not want to go to a clinic at Childrens Hospital
because you do not always see the same Dr. each time you go.
I am at my witts end here. Brittany wants to join the modified
swimming team in January, but is afraid some of the kids will make
fun of her because of the excess body hair. I know nothing can be
done before the practices start, but it has just been soooooo
frustrating dealing with these stupid doctors who think she is to
young. She may only be 12 1/2 years old, but her body is more of a
16 or 17 year old, and she is very mature for her age, because she
has gone through so much with all of these Dr's since she was very
little.
Is there anyone who knows of any Endo's in Western NY who will take
young children for testing? I am desperate for help.
I'm not sure where Newfane is (i'm guessing Buffalo area), so this might be a little far away. I'm seeing an awesome, PCOS friendly OB/GYN in Syracuse, Dr. Nesim Contente. His office staff leaves a little something to be desired, but it's worth it to see him. At the very least, perhaps he can recommend a colleague closer to you. You can PM me for his contact info.
There are a few other Western/CNY cysters out there as well that I would be glad to PM if you don't have any other responses. I used to see Marya Gendzielewski in Syracuse. well. I left due to a disagreement over my treatment. She's worth a shot if you can't find anyone else.

Is Newfane near Niagara Falls? I tried to google it and it seemed to be so. I am in Rochester, so probably will not be that helpful to you but I know there is a cyster from Buffalo that posts on the mommy board. Deedlebug, were you able to PM her? If you don't get any responses soon PM please because I will ask my endo for recommendations for your area....

Thank you, Thank you...everyone who is trying to help.
Kberry...yes I would like the contact information for your OB/GYN. Syracuse is a a little too far away at this point, but like you said, he might know someone in this area.
deedlebug06...I would really appreciate it if you could contact your other cysters and find out if any of them could give you some information.
arevelyne...Yes, Newfane is about 30 minutes from Niagara Falls. I would love to have someone recommend an endo in this area that would take my daughter.
I do have my yahoo and MSN links on my profile so if anyone wants to PM me that would be great too.
Darcy - I PM'd a few more cysters after I finally remembered their screen names. Hopefully someone can help you! Good luck and Merry Christmas.

I live in Orchard Park, south of buffalo, and grew up in Lewiston, north of buffalo. I don't know if I can be of much help because I do not know if my endo takes children. I do have a very good ob/gyn as well who is familar with PCOS and diagnosed me. She is at St. Mary's in Lewiston and her name is Dr. Wesolowski. I don't know if she is accepting patients or even if she would take someone so young but maybe if you contacted the office they could refer you to someone or maybe she would take you in as a consult appt and be able to tell you more. My endo is pretty good, he keeps everything in line , but he is not the greatest with the bedside manner aspect. He is Dr. Torre and he is with the Buffalo Medical Group and has offices across from Buffalo General on High St. I do not know if he would take a "child" for PCOS treatment and I wonder what they would do for her.
I also have a friend in Lockport who saw an RE and they tested her for PCOS. I could get their name as well.
Please PM me or post here if you need anything else. I will try to help as best as I can!

Please let me know what the name of the RE in Lockport is if you can find out. Thanks so much. My daughter has an appointment with a new Dr in Lewiston on Friday right near the hospital. I will take your doctors name with me. I am also going to call her myself, because i havent seen a OB/GYN in about 10 years. I always just had my GP do a pelvic exam and pap test. When I asked her yesteday about it, she recomended that i go to an OB.
Will update after the appointment for my daughter on Friday.

I will ask my friend and get back to you on the re in lockport. Also there is a Dr Renee Baughman(sp) at the ob/gyn office with my dr. I saw her a few times when I was pg and she seems very good as well, although I don't know how familar with PCOS she is, she is "younger" I'd say mid-thirties at the most, and therefore may be more familar with it than an older dr.
I hope you have good luck finding someone who can help you and your daughter out.
We took my daughter to a new GP in Lewiston, NY. After hearing the symptoms that Brittany has, he agrees with us about her having PCOS. He wants her to have an ultrasound to check things out and wants all of her blood test results. (Her old dr's office failed to forward them for her appointment). We will be hand delivering her results at her next appointment, after her OB/GYN visit on the 17th of January. He mentioned BCP and Glucophage (sp) for her and wants to get started ASAP for her.
As a side note..... I am also going to the OB/GYN on the 17th with Brittany and going to see if they will run tests on me for PCOS which my mother and I have thought could be part of my problems to. Excess hair, Hypothyroid, overweight, irregular periods, etc. etc. etc.....
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers...
BTW... I am also recently engaged..... DBF got me a ring for Christmas.
Will keep checking in and updating....Thanks for all your help and support.
I am actually very excited today....We got a diagnosis for my daughter yesterday. I am not glad that she has PCOS, but glad that now we can do something to help her. Her Endo is through Womens and Childrens Hospital of Buffalo, NY and is a great lady. She spent 45 minutes with us explaining things and going over options with us.
Now it is my turn. I go back to the OB on Monday and I am going to insist that they send me to an Endo, if they dont feel they can make a diagnosis themselves. I have waited a long time for someone to take me seriously about this.
Thanks to everyone who suggested different options and Dr's. I will keep you posted as to what my diagnosis is.
((((((((HUGS)))))))))

Hi Darcy...
I too am having an issue, I live in Western NY. I have been dealing with my own PCOS since about 2000. I have been going to this WONDERFUL guy for the past 6 years, he has not only diagnosed me but also treated me and when I say treated me I mean he was awesome. After being diagnosed by this doc., he put me on the proper meds Met and Avandia and I was able to concieve my first beautiful little girl with only having one MC and being pregnant a month later. Delivered the Baby, had a C-section preformed. This Endo/OB was their with me at the hospital from the time my waterbroke! He delivered my daughter, came in and hugged my whole family. I still see this doc, recently I have been trying to conceive my 2nd child (god willing) for the past yr 1/2 under the his guidence, But I have been noticing latley that he has not been the doc, I had with the care of deliverying my daughter, His practice has become quite clinic like, and over populated. Not to mention the reputaion of being the head of dept's in major hospitals in the area. Now from feeling a little waysided, I have insisted that this doc send me to a fertility consultant for my inablity to get preg. Well As you I have also been let in on the fact that My wonderful doc of 6 yrs is the man who they have charged with sexual misconduct. I am in an even more pickle having to decide what to do, Pick a new doc, while now dealing with a fertiltiy spec.
Im at a total disbelif of this charge against this doc/ His is OR WAS the nicest and most helpful with this PCOS issue.. I thought he was the best... What a dissapointment.
So anyways sorry to yack your ear off.. I just wanted to say that If you happen to find so extrordinary type of Endo/ob PLEASE LET ME KNOW
I wish your daughter the best and well as yourself with beating and overcoming this terrible
issue that we as women have to deal with!
