Oh my days !! So I went to the doctor's today with a really positive mood about being prescribed with Met. He told me 'noooo way, it's only for diabetics, i would lose my certificate if i gave you that !!'
Is this true ?!!?!
I'm from England, has any other women had this problem?
Nope. You're docotr is uneducated onthe subject, go somewhere else. It isn't approved by the whatever association as a treatment for PCOS, but almost any doctor who knows anything about it will give it to you.

If you can't switch docs, tell him it is a MAJOR off label use and he won't be losing his certificate. Do some research, print him off some articles.

I was just prescribed Met yesterday and my doctor told me that there really is no reason to NOT be on Met. It is one of the safest meds out there. I'd go to someone else. Or bring in a truck load of articles on how Metformin benefits women with PCOS- IR or NON IR. Good luck!
Oh my, I could write you a long story Tara. I went to 2 doctors (1 RE and 1 general doc) so far and they will not give me met b/c I am thin and non-IR. I even took them articles and tried to explain things. I am disgusted with the medical profession right now. I am taking met on my own and continuing to look for a doctor who is not an idiot. The only reason I can think of that they won't rx is because they are either stupid or they want me to spend big $$$ paying them for fancy fertility treatments. Good luck!

me again yes my gp wouldnt give me met, either. Can you get referred to the hospital endo? that's who prescribed me met - and then the gp can give the repeat prescriptions.
eva
i spoke about his on another thread.
my dr wouldnt even think about giving it to me because i'm not IR and she told me my BMI is far to low to even consider it.
i'm going to go to someone else to get it if i am not PG this cycle.

He still refused to prescribe me with it and had no problem in referring me to an endothingie
I've written to my gynecologist explaining why i came off dianette and want to go on Metformin and my GP won't prescribe me. I asked if she would be able to prescribe me with it via my doctors surgery.
I am an American living in France and most drs here won't prescribe it either for PCOS unless you have Type 2 diabetes. It seems to me that the drs are much more reluctant to treat PCOS with Met on this side of the pond.
