What are Capers? How do you use them? What do they taste like? Are they a veggie? How do they grow?

Capers are flower buds of the caper plant that have been pickled and brined. Somtimes nasturtium buds that have been pickled and brined are marketed as capers. Sometimes capers are preserved by salt pack.
They taste kind of sour and salty at the same time, like mustard but without any heat. They're used mostly as a garnish--often on fish, particularly lox.
They are a veggie. They grow on a bush.

I've had them in pasta, salad, and on pizza. I'm not overly fond of them.

I like the tiny ones in salad dressings and in white wine sauces for chicken, finished with a little butter.

I love capers. To me they taste like Olive bits.
