My DH and I are in constant disagreement over the whole alcohol issue. I avoid it like the plague, because it makes me feel sick. Not only that, but lately just having a couple of sips gives me stomach cramps that last for a good hour or so. :|
I don't drink it because #1) it tastes like poison / perfume #2) it makes me feel like I'm dying. My heart races, I get sweaty and sticky in an ugly, clammy way, I puff up and swell up with edema and whenever I get edema things start hurting all over (I suddenly develop tinnitis, carpal tunnel, arthritis, my TMJ starts hurting, etC).. if I drink just a drink or two, I get an immediate hangover within an hour with headache, nausea, you name it... if I drink enough to get drunk then I will start freaking out because I think I'm dying based on all of the severe bodily distress I'm going through. My heart just beats and beats and beats like it's going to stop any second. I don't understand why people like alcohol!!
I mentioned liking percocet though (it's a prescription narcotic and the only thing that works to stop my TMJ or back pain when it happens) because I can just lie there in no pain whatsoever and just be calm, and quiet, and a little numb... and it feels so good because NOTHING HURTS. And my DH pipes up and goes "That's what alcohol does!" and I looked at him like he was crazy... is he right??? Does alcohol do that to normal people??

Alcohol affects everybody differently... different drinks from beer to vodka can effect the same person different ways. What is it you are drinking? If its beer you could be allergic to hops! Well okay everybody is allergic to hops cause that is what gives you the buzz from beer, but some are more servere and can even die from consuming it! I have had both experiences one... where I feel like I am going to die... My whole body hurts and feels like I am falling apart. Then I have been where I feel like I could do anything and never have anything effect me.
I got percuset because of my csection and it does effect me the same way alcohol affects ME, but everyone is different. I do love that feeling LOL I must admitt. But only once in a while

Right, alcohol affects everyone differently. I had some Sangria yesterday with lunch and it didn't affect me at all - no buzz, nothing. But if I have a glass of wine, or vodka my face gets very warm feeling. If I have more than a drink, I can get a little dizzy. I haven't drank hardly at all in the last 6 years (kinda bad when you consider I'm just 22 LOL) but if I would have 3 or 4 "drinks" then I would be tipsy. Inhibitions are lower, etc. But nothing you talked about. I'm interested in what you are drinking as well.

I have always enjoyed a half bottle of wine or so on a Friday night (dry white because of the carbs of course)
But can I just say to anyone reading "If you are on Met! Be careful with the booze"
I found out on Friday night that now I am taking met a couple of glasses of wine feels like I have drunk two bottles and gave me the complete paranoias!
It is not something I want to repeat!
so maybe it makes you feel ill because you are on Met?

Got to wean myself off that carb overload I've been having lately...... To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 0 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
Some alcohols contain no carbs: gin, vodka, rye, and whiskey (I think). Also, red wine is supposed to help IR a bit, so these should be ok (in moderation) if you low carb.
Before the Met, alcohol didn't really bother me. I only ever drank one, maybe two, glasses of any given beverage, though. Some red wine would make me flushed and a bit dizzy.
Now, I can't drink wine. It all makes me woozy. I don't want to know what hard liquor would do. LOL. I can do light beer, though. What sucks is that I'm not a huge fan of beer. Oh well.

Ok, I have a problem with low blood pressure. I was told NOT to drink alcohol because alcohol dilates your blood vessels and if you have low blood pressure, you have low pump of blood back into your heart. This will often make your heart beat faster, trying to get more blood for itself. When my bp is running on the low side I can have stomach cramps, feeling awful, achiness, cold extremities, racing heart. Possibly your bp could run on the low side at times and alcohol will aggravate this.
Do you ever feel that way in extreme heat, because heat also dilates your vessels.
I think allergies could also be a possibility.
It really stinks because I used to so enjoy the way a glass or two of wine would make me feel.
