I'm saving up for laser hair removal - there's a separate post in here for that. In the meantime, I wax once a week and pluck daily.
So, what am I doing wrong when I wax? I exfoliate first. I put the wax on going AGAINST hair growth, and I pull it off in the direction OF hair growth. I thought that was right? So then how come the hairs keep breaking off below the skin? I have below-the-skin stubble every time I wax.
Depilatories suck - I've tried them all and NONE work for me. Shaving leaves me too stubbly. Help!

I put the wax on IN the direction of hair growth, and pull it off AGAINST the growth. I do get some ingrowns though. I guess it depends what you're waxing.
Anyone else want to settle this question? What's the logic behind it all, anyways??

I use sugar-based wax instead of regular wax and it works pretty well. I thought that you put it on with hair growth and pull it off against. for example, when I do my legs. I spread it from the knee down, then rip it off from the ankle up. With the sugar wax, I'd say 95% of the hair comes right out and stays away for 2-3 weeks.
Another thing I just thought of, pull your skin taut before you rip. Especially for the bikini line.
Hmm...so I'm probably just doing it wrong? Whee! I'll try the other way next time. This makes me feel a little more hopeful. I just wax my face. I once decided to wax my entire happy trail at once, and I was too chicken to yank it off. It took an hour in a hot shower to get it all off.
I am another who thought you put it on the way the hair grows and pull it off against. I have only done a little waxing on my face, but thought that was what the package told me.

There are a bunch of tyoes out there, maybe yours did say to do it differently, but I would try doing it the opposite of how you have been and see how it works for you.
