What BCP should I be taking?

Hey, I've been on Dianette on and off for 2 years since I was diagnosed but now I read how "old-fashioned" it is. I'm a student and I've just been to the health unit where I was told that it is tried and trusted method in dealing with PCOS, 35 years on the market, and there is NO other BCP that is as good as it for PCOS. I mentioned Yasmin, as I've noticed some people discussing it here and I was told that Yasmin is not helpful for dealing with PCOS. I am a bit nervous that the roots of my PCOS are just being masked while taking Dianette and I don't need any contraeception at present. Does anyone know if Dianette is really the "god" of BCPs for us PCOS ladies..? Should I consider other med and get off BCPs altogether? I'd really appreciate some opinions, thanks.

I'm sorry if it's me that gave you that impression. It's just that when I joined this board in 2001 most UK girls were taking Dianette for PCOS and when I have recently started taking it there seemed to be no-one ~ it just doesn't seem as popular now.

I google everything and believe me, I wouldn't have started taking it if I didn't think it was one of the better ones. It's early days for me yet but time will tell if it helps or not.

I don't know why they told you Yasmin does not help with PCOS as I took it for 3 1/2 years and it all but eliminated my oily skin, acne and facial hair. I went off it for 1 month because I wanted to use NPC for the next 6 months until we start TTC. Already, my oily skin, acne and facial hair have come back in full force. I am going to ask my dr to re-prescribe it for me until we are actually ready to start TTC. Oh, also, I did not cycle on the NPC and always did on the Yasmin.
