I am seeing my OBGYN in 2 weeks and am wondering if I should change pills. I have been on Yaz since March and still have acne. I am slowly loosing weight. I am on Yaz and reading some of the forums about Yaz not working for them I thought I should post my questions...
1. What BCP are you on?
2. How long does it take for the acne to clear up? Does it take a long time to clear up acne?
3. Does your BCP make you gain weight?
4. Is there a BCP that helps PCOS? Or does it not really matter?
Should I stick with Yaz? Or should I switch? Your answers may help me decide.
Thank you all for reading!

1. I'm on Apri, the generic form of Desogen.
2. My skin cleared up within 6-9 weeks. I still have a few breakouts but they're so minor I don't care.
3. I gained no weight on this BCP. It's not interfering with my weight loss either.
4. Not sure about this question. For me, Apri is a godsend. The first few weeks on the pill were a bit whacked because I had mood swings and breast tenderness, but once I adjusted, oh man! I feel like I did in high school before my PCOS became a serious issue. I can sleep. My skin is clear. I'm losing weight (with IR diet and exercise.) My periods are light and short. I'm not cramping or having cyst problems. My HS has cleared up. I could go on and on...
Hope you find the answers you need! Good luck!

2. How long does it take for the acne to clear up? Does it take a long time to clear up acne? I didn't have much acne to begin with, so I can't help on that.
3. Does your BCP make you gain weight? Not at all. Quite the opposite, actually. I've lost 2 pants sizes since starting it a couple of months ago.
4. Is there a BCP that helps PCOS? Or does it not really matter? Everyone is different. Some women find they help, others find they don't. You have to find what's right for your individual body.
My first month was annoying with Ortho-Novum. I had AF, then spotted for a week after, had a week off, then got AF again. So far so good this month, though!
Hope that helps!

1. Dianette
2. Improvements straight away, but it never did clear my skin right up this time (second time I've been on it. It got my skin crystal clear the first time). My acne was pretty severe this time though, and it did improve it a lot.
3. No. I lost weight on it.
4. Not sure! trial and error I suppose...
__________________ Dianette
Spiro 100mg
Zinc
EPA fish oils
Ground flaxseed (when I remember) and flaxseed oil on salads
Pure Inositol 3 grams a day (for panic disorder - thrilled to discover it could help with pcos as well)
1. What BCP are you on? I am currently taking Yasmin. I have been taking it since being diagnosed in January of 2007.
2. How long does it take for the acne to clear up? Does it take a long time to clear up acne? I never realized how bad my acne was, until I didn't have it any more. Unfortunately, I can't tell you how long this took. I started taking BCP in Janurary and by March I was getting compliments on how clear my skin looked.
3. Does your BCP make you gain weight? I did not gain weight on Yasmin. I have actually lost 60 pounds since starting it. I have been working on losing weight, but the BCP has not interfered.
4. Is there a BCP that helps PCOS? Or does it not really matter? I don't know. BCP's are different for different people.
I should also add that I am taking Spironolactone, which has also helped with my acne and excess hair. You can't take spiro if you are TTC, but since you are taking BCP I am assuming your not. You might talk to your dr. about spiro as well.
