Question What are "bitters"?

Was reading a book Healing By Design by Dr. Hannen, and he mentioned that you can chew on these "bitters" to help promote better liver and gallbladder function.

What are these "bitters'? It sounds beneficial...

I didn't know what it was either.
I googled it and found this:
"A bitter or bittersweet spirit produced from a blend of herbs, roots and plants."

HTH.

Ah...hmm... usually when I hear the term "bitter herbs" I think of some thing along the lines of herbs used for a Sader dinner, but I think the author may be refering to something else entirely.
Try looking at this site for some more information:

Bitters are herbs that act as digestive tonics.Usually they are called swedish bitters, mostly they are used in liquid form. But you can also use the fresh herbs tossed in salads.
