I just got all my bloodwork back. My Endo has put me on Spiro and Yasmin, and said my glucose/insulin was fine.
I looked at the link here regarding how to interpret your bloodwork results, and it does appear as if my glucose/insulin is within an acceptable range, but at the high normal.
I've also read here that some women can be borderline IR and that Met is effective even if you're not "classically" IR.
So, my question is, how is "borderline IR" defined? Should I talk to my Endo about Met?
I would ask about Met. My insulin has always been borderline-high, just below the high range. My endo wouldn't prescribe Met, since she thought it wouldn't help. A few years later, an OB-GYN prescribed it, and it's worked wonders. So it DOES help with borderline IR.
It kind of depends on the doc - yours might be willing to let you try it. If not, you could always try another doc.

Just found something that might help you in one of Kat's stickies in the research forum.
"Because tests for insulin resistance are inexact, the group recommended that PCOS patients be evaluated for metabolic syndrome. This involves measuring for abdominal obesity, triglycerides, high-density lipoproteins, high blood pressure, and fasting and two hour glucose tolerance."
I definitely tested positive for all of these, even with my "normal" insulin.
Met slowed down my excess hair growth, helped me kick the carb cravings (even after low-carbing for years I was having insane cravings), evened out AF, and helped lower my insulin. I haven't had hair loss for two years, so somebody else should pipe in here, but I've heard it's also great for that. I'd say it's worth a try!
