Default What bread do you eat on the G.I. diet?

I have not found bread that didn't have HFCS in it...what brand are you eating?

I mostly eat Nature's Own, but have been experimenting with several different brands and flavors.

I know that the Ezekiel bread is often encouraged on the GI diet - our local stores often have it frozen/refrigerated. Trader Joe's also carries a similar "sprouted grain" bread that is pretty good that I always assume would be good for the diet, too.

I recently discovered Joseph's Flax, Oat Bran & Whole Wheat Flour Pita Bread. It contains 4 grams of net carbs (8 total, 4 fiber) and 6 grams of protein. And it actually tastes pretty good! It's softer than regular pita bread but I actually like it better.

I eat Alvarado Street Bakery Sprouted Grains bread. I like the Soy Crunch. My family hates this bread, as it's very heavy with lots of seeds, exactly the reason I love it!

Thomas' Light Multigrain English Muffins. 100 calories, 24 g. carbs, 9 g. fiber (15 effective carbs) and 5 grams of protein. Texture is very much like a regular English muffin, the taste is a little cardboardy but you get used to it. Good for sandwiches.

I've been using the "carb-style" Pepperidge Farm bread. It's pretty odd tasting but I'm used to it and find it passable for making peanutbutter toast, egg sandwiches, etc. However, DH won't touch the stuff with a 10 foot pole.

I second Moondogfluffy's recommendation for the Thomas Light English Muffins... they are really good. My favorite way to eat them is to toast and spread with a little brummel and brummel and smear on a wedge of laughing cow cheese. Yum... it really helps with my bagel and cream cheese cravings. Also they are good as a bun for a veggie burger.

I like Ezekiel bread, but what I do is always keep it in the freezer, it goes bad quick...then when i want some, i toast it and make a sandwich or whatever with it. For some reason I like it better toasted then just straight from the package. Its located in the freezer section usually where the organic foods are.

I really like ezekiel bread too. I also keep it in the freezer and then toast a slice when I use it. Having it in the freezer makes me think more about when and how much I eat too. Harder to just grab it!

The ezekiel brand hamburger buns are fantastic. I love them!

I actually find it in the freezer at my health food store. I bought it last week and love it. But its a heavy dense bread that's a bit harder. I don't think it would make a good sandwich unless it was softer. It makes the best toast. I typically smear some butter, pb or cream cheese on it and its heaven. I will probably never eat another kind of bread.

I use Arnold's Natural Flax & Fiber...you can see the flax seeds in it, and the taste is pretty good. The bread is soft, and it's not cardboard-y. There's no HFCS, artificial preservatives, colors, and it's stoneground. To me, that's a whole lot of good, and very little bad! There's also 4 g of fiber and 4 g of protein.

If I crave bread I eat sourdough. In one of the books I bought it said it has a medium GI.
