I have a friend adopting a 7mo old baby girl from Guatemala - baby comes home in a month or sooner, I believe. Other than typical baby items, is there anything adoptive mommies would recommend she should buy? I couldn't think of anything offhand other than maybe a good sling/baby carrier. She's a first time mommy and she's having a baby shower next week or so, so she needs to register and stock up soon. Thanks.

I post stalk you so I am just here to say I think a sling or wrap is a great idea. Maya wraps come in Guatamalan fabrics, if you want to stick with the Guatamala theme.
Our DD just turned 8 months old when we brought her home. We really didnt need a whole lot besides a good car seat, some 6-12 month clothes, size 3 diapers, a good sling and carrier (both to switch it up a bit) and a whole lot of patience and love. Oh ya, an excersaucer saved us for meal time.
After she is home a few weeks she will find more things she will need that she doesnt have or things she has that she doesnt need.
How exciting for her I wish her all the best !

I would talk to your friend to find out the baby's weight...then you can buy clothes based on that. Diapers and wipes are always good too. A children's book with an adoption theme...go to Amazon.com and type adoption into the search, you'll find hundreds!

Thanks. The baby is very small for age. I bought her some outfits, a set of sippy cups, a big box of Costco wipes and several books. She should be here in about a week, I think.
She got a ton of stuff at her shower, so I think she's all set for now.
