Default What can I do to prevent shaving rash?

I'm so sick of this problem. Every time I shave my bikini line and elsewhere "wink wink", I get this horrible rash. Within 24 hrs of shaving I get these very painful, raised, red bumps. But nothing happens when I shave my legs. Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening? The rash will usually last about a week after shaving. So as soon as it goes away it's time to shave again and it comes right back. Somethin's gotta give!

I have the same thing - And have never had relief no matter what I try! They say to use an exfoliator there once a day to encourage haur growth in the right direction, but it never worked for me! Hopefully you find something to help you - maybe another cyster has the solution :o)

Find a razor you are not sensitive too. Plus maybe find some really good gel or creme. I used to do this now I am just furry but I noticed the more I did it the better it got. Good Luck.

Sincerely,

Elaine

Default Works Like A Charm!

A long time ago I bought this stuff called (pardon me) 'coochie shave cream' that got rid of the problem totally. All it was (disguised in a very expensive package) was regular HAIR CONDITIONER. Instead of using shaving cream/gel or soap use Suave Hair Conditioner and it will really work wonders on the problem. You can buy a big bottle for like $1.50 or so. Make sure it doesn't have perfume or anything like that in it and you should be good to go!!

conditioners down there make me itch. what i love is "bikini zone" gel - they have it at wal-mart, target, eckerd, walgreens. . .super smooth & itch-free! there are other threads about this somewhere.

I've tried using conditioner down there and I had allergic reactions to it, but what I did find was that actually men's shaving cream works better than women's does for that area...I don't know exactly why, I've heard that it is because they are less concerned about what it smells like and more concerned about how it works, and that makes sense I guess. So maybe try the conditioner and see how you react to it and if it bothers you try using men's shaving cream instead of womens...

Another thing to try is only going with the direction of hair growth. It may not be as close of a shave, but I've found I get less bumps this way.

i was told not to shave at all by my gyno doctor, but to pluck every thing (it hurts), there is no way you can pluck your legs, by the time you finish one leg theres already regrowth.
i do shave, but i dont using shaving cream or gels, i use a think layer of aloe vera gel (http://www.naturesgift.com/carrier_o...e_vera_gel.htm and i shave with that, it helps me to stop having a shaving rash.

I use aquaphor cream after I shave, it helps both my bikini line and legs. Also works well on diaper rash!

I've had this problem sooo many times and saw this idea on TV from some rich 16 year old shaving her legs and decided to try it. I use conditioner (Pantene preferably) to shave with and apply it in the shower for 1-2 days after shaving and it seems to prevent the razor burn/bumps. I have REALLY sensitive skin and it has been the only thing to work for me!!

Why deodorant?

I tried the conditioner thing today so we'll see what happens!

This seems so strange saying this because this is my first post! I no longer shave but I do use a product called Magic Shaving Powder. I swear by this! No, I don't work for them. You can find it in the African-American hair care section at WalMart or any pharmacy. It comes as a powder and you add a little water to make a paste. You apply it to the area, wait 3 minutes, and scrape it away with a plastic spoon. Yes, a plastic spoon. The hair comes with it! Voila! Smooth as a baby's bottom!
